Why face first when you can block with your Guard?

I was wondering why some boxers do not protect their face with their arms or gloves but instead allow their opponent to tee off just to catch punches on the face then return fire. See Arturo Gatti, Richaro Mayorga, Antonio Margarito, Naseem Hamed, etc. Do they not feel their punches wouldnt be as effective from throwing them from shoulder height? Is it just their style? Their trust in their chin? Surely you learn the fundamentals to use your arms/gloves to block punches if you dont possess alot of head movement and faints.

Folks like Winky Wright, Arthur Abraham, George Foreman, Ken Norton who posses a nice High or Cross guard catch alot of unwanted/unneeded punches then return fire. Having plenty of power from a shorter distance then the ones mentioned above.

The shoulder roll which takes a really special/talented art to master is another great technique to add defense with rapid counters. This style being more hard to adapt due to athleticism wouldnt be considered more basic fundamentals for defense as a tight or high guard.

Just a thought of why not add a bit of defense to your game if it prolongs your health and maybe open more opportunity for offense?

Only girls throw their guard up. Real men eat shots to the fa e for breakfast lunch and dinner. Blood is merely vaginal secretion leaving the clam.

With regards to Prince Nas, it was because he was one of the greatest showmen in the history of either shows or sports. With Mayorga, he was just a hard, hard ******* and also a ****ing psychopath.

Because those guys at the world level are outmatched in regards to skill and technique. Their only hope is to just blow through guys with incredible toughness and badassery.

Yep. These guys tend to look great until faced with someone with the skills to take advantage of them.

They also tend to have shorter careers.
