No way, name me one thing Nunn could do that GGG can`t apart from throw fast combos and run around the ring? GG has landed more jabs than Nunn landed during his career, his jab is far better and more accurate, Nunn use to miss more shots, he was just flash.
Hard fight to figure. Nunn looked so great against Tate and before that, yet I forget the guy who knocked him down before he got a title shot. He was knocked down and I thought that was significant. I should remember the name and I don't. I think the Nunn who beat Barkley would beat GGG by decision. He would have to use his angles and fast punching to win and get the rounds. And I think he would. I never understood Nunn's path. He won the title and then started to struggle and set down on his punches more and he would be hit a little, so if GGG could land to the body and come upstairs and take over who knows, but I don't see it. Nunn was big and fast and he would probably win a decision.
If I think about Golovkin's close bout with Daniel Jacobs; then, consider Nunn, in place of Jacobs, adding a load factor for height, reach, speed, footwork and overall fluidity of movement, in favor of Nunn, I reckon Golovkin is probably hitting air for most of the night, on his way to a clear decision loss.
Wait, I thought GGG was a shoo-in to easily knock Marvelous Marvin clean out and now he can't beat "Second to Nunn"? Wow. Big shift. As others have said, it seems like a toss up. Nunn is slicker and more athletic. GGG is tougher and sturdier. GGG could end up getting shaded most rounds and not be able to land clean or he could at least do better than the slow-footed Barkley who had Nunn in some duress and get to him over the rounds. I can see either one happening.
I have no problem with that take at all. Nunn was so much taller and all that reach advantage. Over 12, the early mobile version Nunn, yeah i can see him getting a decision.
Excellent fight, Nunn to have a 3/4 round advantage moving into the championship rounds but GGG to pressure him and force a dramatic stoppage. It would definitely go down as a spectacle and FOTY.
Nunn against Tate was like a MW Whitaker, he was borderline great. Quick, lanky, slick and and an awesome infighter. GGG is a technical stalker with a huge punch, great chin and brilliant footwork and jab. GGG offsets Nunn with his jab, but loses rounds based on being a step behind. Nunn probably gets careless and stays inside for too long, doesn't move as well or just gets clipped. And well... GGG hits much harder than Toney.
Well GGG was on the decline vs Jacobs. Why not put Nunn on the decline too if you are going to use that version go GGG? Fair and balanced. GGG was an attack oriented power puncher with skills and a jab. Nunn couldn't hurt him, nor take what lands for the distance.
For those that believe that Nunn was past his prime for Toney - when do you think that his prime ended? Was he still prime when he just edged the pretty limited Barkley? That was the fight after the win over Kalambay, and just three fights after his win over Tate.
you make it sound like Nunn had a glass chin.He was only stopped once in his 15 year career with over 60 fights in 3 weight classes
I don't think Golovkin would have handled Jacobs any better, no matter when they had met. Nunn had even bigger physical advantages, with better speed and movement, to boot. I'm not a big Nunn fan, but Golovkin never beat anyone on Nunn's level.
