Was Canelo basically a prospect when he fought Floyd?

Only 22 or 23 years old, so green. Most fighters are just turning pro at that age or even still in the amateurs. And floyd weight drained him. I had the fight 7 -5 or 8 - 4 mayweather, canelo is a completely different fighter today.

No. Stop this "green" narrative, please. You can dislike Mayweather all you want but you flag yourselves as irrational haters (of his, or irrational backers of Canelo) if you bend over backwards to refuse him any credit for schooling Canelo.

THE KID WAS AN EIGHT GODDAMN YEAR VETERAN by then, with 43 matches under his belt. He was 7-0 in world title bouts alone, having just fought:

    Matthew Hatton
    Ryan Rhodes
    Alfonso Gómez
    Kermit Cintrón
    Shane Mosley
    Josésito Manuel López
    Austin Trout

...before which he already had cut his teeth on literally dozens of B-grade opponents representing every style in the book, culminating with former titlists Carlos Baldomir and Lovemore N'Dou prior to his own championship run.

    Green schmeen, GTFOH.

Also that scorecard is ridiculous; this fight really wasn't close. Álvarez won zero clear rounds. I didn't give him one. At the very most you could give him maybe three.

Completely different fighter my ass. Improved some facets of his game yes, but other than being a light heavyweight now and Floyd being in his forties, this match-up wouldn't play out any different now, if you could bestow a 2013 Canelo with 2020 Canelo's ring IQ.

Canelo had more matches when he fought Mayweather than what some fighters have when they retire! Green? Come on give me a f-ing break! He was just outclassed my the better Mayweather, that’s it!

    Lol

Well for starters Canelo is not getting as tired now that he has hit his full physical prime.

His feints have improved very much.

His punch variation has also improved. He used to have that one dimensional power. Everything he threw was with the same speed and same power.

He's also become one if not the best body puncher in boxing.

I also don't think he would respect Mayweather's power as much as he did in the first fight.

Even he said later on that he would not have tried to box with Mayweather again if given another chance. I think he what he was saying is he would apply pressure.

The question is can Canelo survive Japan? That place is the Achilles of young top fighters getting their ass handed to them.

True but the guy he's fighting has already gotten robbed once at home in Japan (versus HNN, somebody I'm quite fond of but must admit isn't a fraction the cash-cow that Canelo is, nor is he as dangerous a physical specimen, nor does his style lend itself to impressing pro judges as much as Canelo's..)

No idea why he tried to box mayweather, maybe trying to prove a point.

Canelo had 63 fights total counting amateur and professional. Amateur boxing in Mexico is low quality, and Canelo had only reach the world level 52 fights into his am and pro resume combined.

So let's use some honesty. Just because Canelo had 42 pro fights it doesn't mean he's a seasoned vet.

Fighters DLH, Lomachenko, Golovkin had hundreds of fight experience before even turning pro.

Bad game plan. He was fighting a living legend at 23, with Austin Trout being the only credible A fighter under his belt.

He was not yet 'a man in full' and he has improved a lot since then.
I believe he would have beaten Floyd at 154 anytime after a year after the fight.

That said, Canelo started young and was an accomplished, undefeated super welterweight title holder with victories over Trout, Cintron, Lopez and others.

For me, this would rank as one of Floyd's best( maybe the best ) wins. He schooled Canelo, winning at least 9 rounds despite one dreadful 6 - 6 card.

    Haha, nice try.

Canelo was the undefeated WBA, WBC and Ring LMW champion. That ain't no prospect. Stop trying to downplay that win.
36 year old Floyd just made him LOOK like a prospect, only rounds Canelo 'won' were when Floyd had to rest his legs and take it easy to conserve his energy. Canelo's a little more technical and experienced now but so what ?? He landed **** the whole fight and that was with Money in second gear the 12 rounds.
