Was Canelo basically a prospect when he fought Floyd?

Ahh ok gotcha. He was good just not ready.
He did box well just laughable compared to Floyd.

another thing Floyd said after the fight not at the presser I forgot where but he said y’all wait & see Canelo man ... Don’t judge him by how he looked in there with me... boy is going to be something serious.

    Something along those lines.
At the time I thought he was just talking but now I know this is what he was talking about.

with time that schooling loooks better & better on Floyd’s resume!

Canelo wasn't close to the finished product that he is today. His maturity is evident in his punch selection, punch technique, improved defense, and overall ring IQ.

It was mostly the catchweight that killed him. Canelo was more marked up in the Floyd fight than in any other fight. Being drawn and dehydrated resulted in much easier bruising/lumping. His punches also lacked snap and power behind them.

Very likely this is a GGG-Stan thread where GGG fans are angry that Canelo beat their guy but lost to Floyd 12-0 and almost got knocked out by Floyd to boot.

    Lmfao.

    Deal with it.

They were ranked #1 and #2 at 154lbs in the world.

It is impossible to paint Alvarez as green.

A prospect? He was 42-0-1 with half a dozen word title defences and fights with veterans like Baldomir and Ndou who know every trick in the book as well as the likes of Cintron and Trouth. He was the #1 in the division other than Mayweather.

He was not at his athletic peak, which tends to occur in the late 20s/early 30s, but he was no prospect, he'd been fighting pro for 8 years, more than enough to learn the game. He just came up against a better and more experienced fighter.

Canelo has improved since, he just looks a more well rounded and self confident fighter, reads the game better and is more defensively aware. Today's Canelo would be more competitive against that Mayweather. But put today's Canelo against the Mayweather of the Hatton/ Marquez fights and I'm still not sure it ends any differently.

He had 40 plus pro fights and enough amateur fights to be in total control of his talents and skills.

What was canelo lacking in that fight , IF THE OPPONENT wasn't fighting one of the best fmj to step in a ring

Canelo was already elite and if he stayed exactly the same would had already been and ATG IN THE MAKING,fmj taught him a ton in that fight and now canelo fights more like fmj that anyone else.

That's how great both fmj and canelo are were and always will be

Only because he's too big for the tiny fmj and it's a pick em fight if fmj was still mid 30's

Even the ''Mexican meat'' munching built like a Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus tank ripped to shreds 180lb + supposed ''prime'' version of Clenelo was being comprehensively outboxed by a shot beyond belief Kovalev and a way past prime GGG and believe it or not Floyd is actually slicker than both of them albeit admittedly they both hold a power edge over him.

No way can you be considered green 40+ fights and world championship wins. No way.

if he had 40+ fights and it was his first shot at a belt then maybe more of a case, but na. Mayweather tooled him
