Two of the big names from the glory years of Supermiddle. So who takes it? I've got ward by split decision win.
I have got Toney by close points win. Toney really was at his best as a supermiddle, a master boxer. Against Roy, he really was not in shape.
Agreed. Toney always had trouble with "movers '' as it were. I know he was weight drained against Jones, but at his best he did struggle with boxers. So with that I see Ward getting the win, but Toney doing his damn best to take Andre s head off. It would get him one judges vote but the other two have it well in favor of ward.
I do not rank Ward as a great mover. In my opinion, Nunn, Reggie Johnson and Mc Callum had better footwork
Pickem fight to me. Cases can be made for both of these future hall of famers. Both were successful against a wide variety if fighters/styles. Ward would certainly try use his movement and footwork to try and out point the masterful counter puncher that was James Toney. Ward is no knocking out Toney but I could see him taking a decision. Then again, I would not be surprised to see Toney's hand raised either.
Toney outboxes the so called master boxer and teaches him a thing or two along the way. Toney is the superior fighter.
I could be swayed either way. However, Toney fought plenty of crafty guys.... Johnson, McCallum x2, the forgotten Tim Littles, Prince Charles... I think he would have a definite response to any dirty work on Ward's part, and turning to the ref would not be one of them. I am leaning toward him rocking Ward at least once and winning a decision.
