Reyes won the first 3 rounds without question, but I knew they would give it to Jones. MMA has gotten just as bad as Boxing.
Jon has been looking real shabby in his last 3 fights now. Maybe it's time for him to hang em up. I'm a Jones fan but he was certainly outworked tonight but Dana did his Arum/King thing and got Jonny the nod. I don't see this being a reoccurring theme as more young guys go for the throne. He can either walk away on top like GSP did or he can get the Anderson Silva,Chuck Liddell retirement package of a young buck literally beating you into retirement.
Jones should have lost He is getting older and possibly off the juice. No killer instinct like back in the days when he finished DC, Machida, Shogun etc
Everyone talking about Jones' takedowns.. what about Dominics knockdown in the first? do they score that a 10-8 round like in boxing? cause if they do, then it's even more outrageous of a robbery
I find it hard to see how Reyes didn't win the first three rds. Yes, Jones had control of the Octagon for most of the third, but Reyes landed the damaging blows and that's what counts most heavily for me. The 49-46 scorecard in favour of Jones was atrocious.
Just watched it, first three rounds were all Reyes. Totally bent. One corrupt dick had it 4-1 to Jones. wtf
I think Reyes won the first round but then was on the back foot for the rest of the fight. You can't do that and expect to get a decision against a champion. He had to do more.
Do more? There is no do more just cause the other guy went into fight with the belt. Once the bell ring there is no champ. Both guys are now fighting to get he belt. He was fighting on the back foot and scoring . Jones coming forward but was ineffective aggression. Jones coming forward and not landing punches and eating punches does not win the rnd.
This was a close fight. I think a lot of people are upset because Reyes landed the bigger and more eye catching shots. Personally, I thought that Reyes won rounds 1 and 2, and Jones won rounds 4 and 5. Round 3 was closer, a harder round to judge. I gave it to Reyes and thought he edged the fight, however I could see how someone might go the other way and give the fight 48-47 to Jones.
I didnt see it yet but was reading fan reactions Seemed to be a strong consensus that Reyes won round 1 and that Jones won round 4 and 5. 2 and 3 seemed to be the point of contention many posts seemed to argue those rounds. I will say if many saw 2 definitive rounds for Jones and 1 definitive round to Reyes doesnt that make the fight close enough to be a realistic win for Jones given all he had to do was shade one of the other rounds
I had it for Reyes, but it really seems like the scoring is all over the map on this one. It kind of reminds me of Ike Quartey vs Vernon Forrest (rip). A lot of people had Ike winning like 8 or even 9 rounds, but the rounds were so close that you really can't call it a robbery when there were so many razor close rounds. My takeaway is that I want to see Reyes fight Jones again, but this time with a little more 5 round experience. I think the winner of Anderson vs Jan should get the next title fight. Then in the meantime Reyes can fight Anthony Smith. If Reyes beats Smith he can rematch Jones. That extra bit of experience could make the difference in a fight that comes down to the wire.
No robbery at all was close fight with a 48-47 score either way fair. I havent rewatched yet but I had it 2-2 going into the last round that Jones clearly won. Reyes is a lot better then what people tried making out before the fight, which should be further proven in next couple of years
