I'm going with Mazzinghi on points here. Thoughts?

I've been on this forum since 2005 and I've never heard of Sandro Mazzinghi...

    Sorry...

If that's true then shame on the forum.

Dont worry. Effectively hes not famous as Carnera, Benvenuti or Damiani but he was an excellent light middleweight fighter who held the title twice.

His bout with Freddie Little sounds like it was one of the shadiest ever. Right up there with Napoles-Muniz I and Coggi-Gonzalez I.

Little won after having bombed Mazzinghi with headbutts for the whole fight.

I'm not saying yea or nay on that because I have never seen the fight, just read about it extensively and I never heard anything about butts. I also find it strange that the referee - who was obviously partial to Mazzinghi - did not deduct points from Mazzinghi for errant use of the head.

It was Little who hit with headbutts Mazzinghi not the contrary. The referee wanted to disqualify Little because Mazzinghi was deeply injuried but at the end he declared a no contest and Mazzinghi kept the title. After some days he lost the title by decision of the federations.

Sorry, typing fast, meant to say The referee didn’t deduct from Little. And I believe it was the EBU who had the title vacated from their own man. Like I said, never heard anything about butts from Little. Must investigate further but it doesn’t sound like much if the Italian piero pina headed up removing Sandro’s title.
