Were there any parents who thought their son shouldn't box? If you remember Jim Morrison of the doors father thought he was a horrible singer. I'm not even a fan of his in particular but I always found that interesting. I'm talking about a case basically where a distinct parent said they didn't want their son to box? All my memory is pulling up is fighters with supportive family. From Rocky Marciano, David Haye to even fringe contenders like Antoine Douglas. Manny's mom was so supportive she even went as far as putting bad juju on Bradley. Even just recently I heard Wilder talk about how his grandma used to say he was blessed
Ernesto Marcel must have been in this situation somewhat, since he retired an ATG 126lber at the top of his game after beating Alexis Arguello and a host of other top fighters. It was his mother that kept urging him to retire, apparently. He still had a lot left to give IMO. This content is protected This content is protected
George Foreman with his son George Foreman III, despite an unbeaten run. He never progressed past bumbashing stage before he got out, and that was a good thing imo and pleased his dad.

From what I understand, it was his dad who took him to a boxing ring for the first time. Oscar apparently wanted to play baseball but his dad told him no and that he was going to box. Another case, Ricardo Lopez’s mom. His dad was supportive but his mom wasn’t in the slightest and wanted him to study and find a good job instead.
If I remember correctly Eric morales dad didn't want him to fight, so he put him in there with s stud. Well El terrible beat him and proved to his dad he was a bonifide boxer. Also Jesse James leija, wasn't allowed to box till after graduating high school. And Trinidad s dad saying basically "we were in past our heads in the winky wright fight". It was time for both of them to retire. Sr dropped the bucket and Tito made a despondent effort. Anyway nonito donaire. My question is why a Filipino fighter would go against his father? Nonito said it wasn't that fun and that it seemed like hard work. Roy Jones edified that it was great powers that his family couldn't understand what donaire was truly capable of. I'm sure donaires dad got that segment and watched it and after rjj comment he still loves his son .
Juan Manuel Márquez & I believe Devin Haney pops took him to a boxing gym to teach him a lesson & he ended up whooping every body!
Legendary nights said Cooneys dad talked about him bad every chance he had, be it as a boxer or a man.
Wally Swift never wanted his sons to Box. He insisted they both go to University. In the end they wanted to Box that badly that he relented but only on the condition that he trained them . They both got 1st class degrees and Young Wally won a British Title.
