Any home coming upsets? Even this type counts: Danny Garcia made a huge deal about a home coming vs Herrera. Then looks bad in the fight vs maestro.
Wasn't an upset but Kovalev's UD over Chilemba for Sergei's homecoming in Russia was underwhelming and the beginning of him looking less invincible.
Um, that was no freaking homecoming... Brook moved up in weight to take on one of the best P4P boxers in the world. It just happened to be on his home turf. J-Roc had a supposedly easy homecoming title defence vs Rosario. Banana botched that one beautifully.
I'm from St Louis and will never forget when Cory Spinks got knocked out by Zab Judah at home in front of 20k people. Cory was coming off of back to back wins over Mayorga and Judah and if he had won the rematch he was in line to fight Floyd next which would have been a massive payday. The fight sold out very quickly and the whole city was buzzing since we hadn't had a local boxing star since his uncle Micahel Spinks. There we rumors at all the local gyms that Cory was having a miserable time making 147 and was as high as 160 a week before the fight. He definitely didn't have his usual speed and quickness and eventually got KOed by Judah. Cory missed his opportunity at a huge payday with Floyd and ended up moving up in weight to fight 154 while Zab got to fight Floyd on pay per view the following year. That was a rough homecoming for sure.
Another one was James Toney going into Micahel Nunn's hometown and knocking him out in the 11th round. At that point, Nunn was an absolute beast of a fighter while Toney was somewhat of an unproven but talented fighter. Toney's reign of terror began that night.
Yeah but they even played "I'm coming home" on all the promos. They played the boricua homecoming angle for that fight. Even Angel ranted about it
