Errr - not six times and not by opponents named Corey Sanders; Lance Whitaker and Kirk Johnson.

A loss to Holmes is no shame and, as you pointed out, he went past 12 rounds.

His other two KOs came well after he was done and even they were to boxers of class.

Yeah, because fat, roidless Toney and Maskaev are such great scalps.

    Whatever.

In fairness, Toney 2* & Masksev are definitely better scalps than short Lyle, Young and Norton. I don't why Jameel McCline hasn't been mentioned. He's the best win either has imo.

Kirk Johnson was top ten. Cooney never beat a guy in the top ten. He was knocked out every time he tried, unlike Maskaev.

Cooney would hardly be a safe bet against a prime Whitaker either.

Mcline knocked Peter down three times, and really won the fight. Not being sarcastic, just asking...did you see it?

As for Toney, this was the post-steroids bust. He was not a legit heavy. Maskaev was just cashing out at that point, although wearing a belt, he is probably your strongest argument. If you remember, there was a lot of problems even getting him in the right for a fight.

Norton was coming off the win against Tex Cobb, so he was not exactly finished until Cooney almost killed him. Lyle had managed the previous year to beat Scott Ledeux who at least past as a Larry Holmes title defense, and Young bounced back with a series of victories. None of them were at their best, but none were completely shot.

FOH. Young was the only one with fight left, and Cooney was fortunate for the cuts.

Have you even watched the fight? The commentary mentions the heat, let alone the post-fight reports I am sure you can find to read.

You do know what the words "prime" and "peak" mean don't you?

And, how about all those Holmes opponents, who managed to get to the end of 12 full rounds with him, before the Cooney fight?

Oh wait... ...they'd be Berbick, Norton and Shavers. 3 opponents in, at the time of the Cooney fight, 39 bouts.

By the way, post-Cooney, Smith didn't hear the final bell, either.[/QUOTE]

I don't know what you think you're proving. It was hot, but not over 100 when they were fighting.

I'm not trying to prove anything. I am reading the reports and posting a link to one of them for you.

    Here it is again: https://www.ringtv.com/502457-larry-holmes-gerry-cooney-helluva-fighter/

If you don't want to read (I know you prefer not to, sometimes) that's your prerogative.

As I have just delineated, Lyle and Norton were both coming off wins over world title challengers.

So just like with the other thread, you haven't the foggiest idea what you are talking about. Are you even shaving yet?

No I didn't, but I did know he was dropped 3 times. I assumed it was a Wlad/Peter situation in that despite the KDs the right guy won, due to the UD and lack of controversy. I agree it's not a good leger, but it's still better than Cooney's by a noticeable margin. Also, does anyone think that résumés as poor as these need looking into here? Look at styles man.

    You aren't fooling anyone:
Norton in two years before Cooney
    SD Cobb
    Draw Le Doux
Ko loss in 1 to Shavers
    This is trash.

    Lyle:
Tko loss to some ham and egger, and a few wins over similar forgettables.
SD Le Doux (before the loss to the no hoper)
    This is trash.

My take is that your education level is too rudimentary to understand that making ridiculous points makes you look bad. You should've stuck to praising Young but your ego and literacy level failed you.

Nobody scored that fight for McCline. It wouldn't have been close if it were 12 instead of 10.

It was a 12 round fight. Had it been 10 rounds McCline would have easily won.
