Downe`s is a sports journalist for The sun newspaper and has written an article about Fury stating his win over Wlad will rate higher than a potential win over Wilder, Downe`s compared Fury v Wlad to four other great Brit wins:

    Fury v Klitchko
    Calzaghe v Lacy
    Honeyghan v Curry
    Lewis draw v Holyfield
    Hatton v Castillo

I personally feel Randy Turpin`s win over Ray Robinson belongs on this list ahead of one of these bouts, is this a credible list?

It's not a bad list to be honest. Not sure why it's the draw with Lewis v Holyfield in there, is that because Lennox actually performed better according to most in the first fight rather than the actual win he got over him?

Yes, Downes said it was actually Lewis`s most dominant performance v a legend.

Turpin over Robinson surpasses all of those.

Berg vs Canzoneri 1 is easily top 3. No question IMO. Berg also has wins over Kid Chocolate and Mushy Callahan.

    That is a terrible list.

"At MSG last night before more than 18,000 fans Jack (Kid) Berg disregarded a normally heart-breaking 1st round in which he almost collapsed and came back to outslug Tony Canzoneri, former featherweight champion. Canzoneri was a heavy favourite and the judgement of the so-called wise money looked very right in the opening canto when Tony rocked the English boxer with a series of rights and lefts to the jaw. After that Berg fought a steady, persistent fight, carrying the battle to the Italian and beating him decisively. His attack was so relentless and so sure that only in the 7th round did Canzoneri show anything." -International News Service

Is it a top five list of fights he has seen? Otherwise, there's no sane argument for not having Turpin-Robinson on top of the list.

Agree with Berg-Canzoneri being up there as well. If pound for pound was a thing at that time, Canz would have been at or near the top, and Berg by reports gave him a beating.

Driscoll-Attell and Lewis-Britton (take your pick) should be up there as well.

If that’s the criteria for inclusion on the list, I must have missed it when Lacy, Curry and Castillo became legends.

I think it is obvious that Wally Downes (wasn’t he a soccer player?) has no interest in watching boxers that fought in fights that were filmed in black+white.

Stracey v Napoles was a huge upset at the time.

But even then his list is bad.

True, though at that time Curry was considered a legend in the making by British fight pundits.

    Napoles was past his best.

That’s true, in fact he was actually shot.
Going into the fight though Napoles was the favourite, people just didn’t realise how far he was gone.
