Deontay Wilder will never be the real HW champion unless he fights and defeats Anthony Joshua

If he defeats Tyson Fury this coming Saturday, Deontay Wilder will be boasting about being the heavyweight champ.

But his words will be empty and meaningless as long as he continues to cravenly avoid Anthony Joshua, the world's best heavyweight.

Wilder also needs to fight some prime top ten heavyweights like Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker before establishing a legacy as a top heavyweight. Having a resume of fighting only old men with health problems (Ortiz), shot fighters (Arreola), limited journeymen (Gavern, Szpilka) and faded drug abusers with mental problems (Fury) is not enough.

Nah, this is a battle between 1 and 2. AJ is sitting at number 3 right now.

Anthony joshua?
The guy who got dropped five times against a 300 lb midget
And then ran like a scared girl in the rematch?
That's your HW champ?

The winner of this weekend's fight will be No. 1. There's not even a good argument otherwise, given that Joshua is less than a year removed from getting battered and stopped by Ruiz. But I agree that true "closure" in the division requires the winner to fight Joshua. That will determine the best HW of the era, followed by those guys (esp. Wilder) starting to age out and a new crop of incoming contenders.

He will never be the undisputed champion until he fights and beats Anthony Joshua. But he will be the the lineal champion if he beats Fury.

We saw Joshua on all fours some months ago, then avoid a fight in the rematch. Wilder will be the #1 heavyweight after this fight.

You got it wrong, it is the other way around. Joshua will never be the real champ if he never beats the winner of Fury-Wilder II.

Beating a 300 pound out of shape Ruiz., it is a disgrace that Eddie is hyping his man as the real champ. Well the again, I guess it is part of the job

The undisputed HW Crown is currently vacant. You simply cannot claim to wear the Crown if another guy holds 3 of the 4 major belts.

Unless Joshua is beaten , there will be no wearer of the Undisputed HW Crown.

Both positions are true.

Wilder and Fury are 1 and 2 of 3. There's 3 guys at the top of the division, each has a claim and each has some big question marks over that claim. Those questions won't be fully answered in Vegas.

hearn publicly acknowledges that wilder fury is no1 v no2.Agree though that joshua would have to fight and beat the winner.

That "midget" was one of several prime top ten heavyweights Deontay Wilder has AVOIDED.

Wilder prefers to fight age 50 fat heavyweights like Ortiz rather than age 30 fat heavyweights like Ruiz.

Wilder used to fight blown-up age 40 fat former middleweights, remember? Like this guy: https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/45596

When Bowe defeated Holyfield, he still wasn't the true champ because he refused to fight Lennox Lewis. Lennox having one previous bad night against Oliver McCall made no difference.

A real champion doesn't avoid anybody.

Yeah, but that's an easy game to play:

It's a disgrace that Arum and Warren are hyping a man who tested positive for nandrolone PED's casting suspicion across all his prior achievements, who retired from boxing ballooning in weight making clear his contempt for it and who then fought utter dross like Seferi and Pianeta and who followed his fight with Wilder with Schwarz and Wallin.

It's a disgrace that Haymon is hyping a man who has made a career out of avoiding anything resembling a prime, top ranked opponent. Who has maintained his unbeaten record only due to home cooked scorecards that robbed another man of a deserved victory. Who has dragged the sport through the gutter through his tasteless comments wishing death on opponents simply to grab a few headlines and earn some more tawdry exposure.

etc. etc. etc. It would be very easy to go on about each of them, or indeed to expand on the questions around AJ's own claim. Joshua's loss to Ruiz Jr deservedly saw him move to number 3 in the division, but it didn't do anything to answer the questions around Wilder's lamentable record or Fury's questionable past.

Anyone who is honest and not a pathetic fanboy realises that each of these men are flawed and any claims they make to dominance are subject to legitimate question.

Anyone, again presupposing they're honest, not a complete moron or some kind of delusional shill, realises that Showtime and ESPN's sudden desire for repeated fights between Fury and Wilder has the SQUARE ROOT OF **** ALL to do with genuinely answering the question of who rules the division and everything to do with a war between two models of boxing broadcast revenue generation.

Anyone who really loves the sport, rather than one particular fighter, wants to see these guys fight each other, whilst they're still credible and with honest judging rather than a stacked deck.

Unless and until that happens it doesn't matter whether Wilder has 10 defences of the WBC, Fury claims the lineal title, Joshua is the unified champion or what RING magazine, TBRP, or any commentator or poster here says. Least of all, very least, what Hearn, Arum, Warren or any other promoter says trying to work an angle for their guy.

There will be legitimate questions over any man's claim until they're answered in the ring. As fans we have to hope at least one of those sets of questions is answered in that ring in Vegas. If anyone seriously thinks though that the man who comes out of that ring victorious has eradicated all of the question marks that surround their claim to supremacy then they really DKSAB.
