Yeah, same. If your prerogative is to beat up no-hopers, then you can still do that. Lets say Plant gets KO'd by Canelo, ok he can go back to dominating guys who have no chance, except this time he will be rich. Haymon has these dudes brainwashed.

I don't doubt that at all. Seems exactly like Haymon slight of hand.

Damn right he should have taken it. He's young and coming off an easy fight, unlike Kovalev who is older and was coming off a very tought fight. You don't have to be Harry Greb or Henry Armstrong and fight 5 times a month but FFS this would have been his best payday BY FAR and with 3 weeks rest PLUS 5 weeks training it should have been no problem at all for him.

    I am disappointed in Plant.

I would have enjoyed seeing the fight but Plant is a grown aze man and he knows his body/mind better than we do. If he needs more time than FK Canelo can wait or call up old man GGG

If he feel like he needed more time, then no.

So he's basically rejecting the Alvarez fight to end up getting knocked out by Benavidez at a much lower purse.

Canelo is going to stack the cards against his opposition in any manner he sees fits, that includes forcing his opposition to fight him in quick turn around times from their last fights. He's firm on fighting on Cinco de Mayo so any potential opponent has to understand how this works- placate to all his demands, beat Alvarez and you'll be in the driver's seat when it comes to negotiations in a rematch.

That's one way in turning someone into a PPV star.

Yes fighter use to fight 3, 4 , or more times a year. They use to also fight 15 rnds, hell even more rounds at the turn of the century. Just because it was done before doesn't make it right to do. Boxing is very physical sport. Some of these guys get there head rattled for 10 to 12 rnds. If they want to take a decent rest between fight I have no problem with it.

Instead of pissing on Plant, what about Canelo. He has had this date circled since last year and just now decides to make a fight with someone who just fought. He has the backing to make any fight for May 2nd. Its just BS in my eyes that people are giving him a pass just because he can throw money at people to try and make unfair term. What happened to Saunder? There is also noise now he wants GGG. Seems like he is all over the place trying to dictate terms to other fighter and they are telling him no.

From a financial perspective - yes, definitely. He may not see an offer that large again in his career (assuming the offer was, say, approximately 4 times what he has earned for a fight up to now) unless they really build his brand and / or he goes on to dominate the division. However, I can understand why he didn't take the fight.

The fact that Oscar De La Hoya is throwing such a hissy fit over Plant turning them down is odd and leads one to believe there's more going on here. (Or Oscar is just stoned again and looking for something to jam up his butt or another girl to "fist.")

Plant's one of those boxers like Virgil Hill. He's going to move at his own pace. He's a local star. He's got really good Network TV money coming in and real exposure. He's got a pretty wife. He's doing just fine.

In some ways, I'm sure Plant looks at Oscar like he's the goddamn devil. Just loaded down with money, drugs, perverse sidelines. A lot of boxers don't want anything to do with Oscar De La Hoya. That's why they didn't go with him when Haymon and Schaefer split off from Golden Boy and formed PBC.

Plant should just keep doing what he's doing. He's climbed out of poverty. He's a success. Things are going his way. He can move at his own pace. Soon, Eubank Jr. will move up. Charlo will move up. And he'll have plenty of names to defend his title against.

He should just take this time to enjoy his life. He's a millionaire (or really close to it) and 27 and has a pretty good thing going.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side, especially when the guy waving the money over there is such a weird, drug addled degenerate.

    100%

even if he lost a decision say 8-4 his stock wouldn’t take too much of a knock, he would be filthy rich and he can come again and earn more money / titles

hell if it was close or he won he would get a rematch then he’s hit the lottery
