it'd be epic if somehow Kownacki and Ruiz ended up having all the titles and fought each other for the Unification Undisputed Championship... What a collision course of 2 Morbidly Obese guys who only know how to come forward... Ruiz wouldn't have to chase Kownacki around like he did Joshua it'd be a toe to toe Slug-Fest until someone dropped... What a Heavyweight Fight should be, not tap dancing and running around to kill the clock and put the audience to sleep!!
I don't recommend watching this fight live. Better to record it and play it back at 1.5x speed. Then it will look fine....
Washington is a journeyman. This is not an interesting fight. Martin should be fighting a bona fide contender.
horrible in terms of an eliminator but a nicely matched fight that will probably be entertaining I watched Martin wins his belt at the Barclay Center and was hopeful that he could carry the title. I liked that he faced Joshua a top challenger and I know he didnt put up a great effort there isnt much shame losing to Joshua. However his disappearance from the sport rather than taking the loss as a learning experience irked me. I'm glad hes back and he showed the heart he lacked vs Joshua by digging in vs Kownacki Washington, while I've never been a fan of and rooted against frequently, I respect. He took his life gave him lemons story of failing in football and made his way as a boxer. I know PBC can be accused of coddling guys but he has faced a great list of fighters regardless of win/loss and has always been well prepared and tough. I know beating Robert Helenius doesnt mean what it did say 5-8 years ago but he really overcame adversity in that fight hurt at times and tired it seemed like the fight was getting away from him like it did in the Miller fight but he dug in and took it. I think Martin is the better fighter overall but Washington is going to make Martin work and that might be an area where Washington is better prepared to win. I pick Martin
He had the full package & workrate back then. Also Washington gets caught & has a hard time recovering. I think Saturday should be a close decision imo
Gerald Washington outpointed Eddie Chambers and stopped Robert Helenius. For a guy who switched sports and took up boxing late, those are pretty solid wins. The losses to Miller (a notorious PED cheat) and Miller's close friend and gym mate Kownacki (who hasn't popped a test but hasn't looked like a big puncher since Miller got busted) really hurt Washington's career. I'm glad Gerald came back strong against Helenius. He'll be 38 in April, though, so this year may be it for him. He always shows up in shape and ready to fight, unlike Martin. I'll be rooting for Gerald. But either guy could win. Flip a coin.
I still insist that Washington should not have been stopped against wilder, and if the ref wasn’t in the way Washington was in a fantastic position to chin wilder who was windmilling!!!!
When Washington got up, and after the referee waived it off, Washington was out of it and nearly fell on his face as he tried to walk back to his corner, which he couldn't find. He may have been in a fantastic position to counter, but he was also out on his feet. This content is protected
Kownacki never easily beat Martin, that fight was very competitive, especially down the stretch. Martin towards the end was tagging and buzzing Kownacki. Might have been different if it was a 12 round fight.
