It seems that the winner of the rematch will be one of two possible outcomes : either a Fury 12 round decision or a Wilder win by KO / stoppage. Despite the first match being a draw, most people seemed to agree that Fury pretty much won every round. Maybe a couple rounds could be argued for Wilder, but most saw the draw as a ridiculous gift for Wilder despite him scoring a sensational knockdown in the final round. Wilder had the same problem vs Ortiz before he scored the knockdown : he was losing the cards because he doesn't seem to even try to win rounds, he just waits and waits and waits for the perfect shot. I'm trying to pinpoint the actual reason why Wilder gives away rounds. Is it that he actually has stamina problems and really wants to conserve his energy so he can still have the explosive energy to land big shots down the stretch? Any way you slice it, it's a calculated risk. What would happen if Wilder took the strategy of walking Fury down and throwing one-twos over and over again when he gets within range and actually tried to win some of the early rounds? I mean Wilder could do that right? What would it take for Wilder to actually win a decision vs Fury? Most would say the answer to that is score multiple knockdowns? I just wonder if Wilder is capable of being a more aggressive fighter. I know he's not the most skilled fighter technically and really seems to wait and wait and wait till the perfect opportunity to land a big shot. But if Fury's mobility is not what it usually is due to ankle injuries, maybe there's an opportunity for Wilder to land the jab with more regularity, and maybe Fury decides to stand and trade more due to a lack of mobility. We know Wilder is a devastating KO artist with massive punching power. He can knock anyone out with one punch, but can this guy take his technical game to the next level and not just give away rounds all the time?
Wilder's power definitely makes up for his lack of fundamentals but he shouldn't change what has got him to where he is today. We seen that happen with many boxers and it always ends bad. Even Fury trying to go for a KO is out of pocket for him to do when he is a classic boxer. Both guys just need to approach each other differently but stay in their lanes.
He can't turn into a volume puncher over night. But he was landing some jabs to the chest in the first fight in the first fight, he needs to do more of that. Chest, shoulders, work the jab whereever you see the opening. And throw some lead left hooks, as Fury will be watching the right hand all night.
no wilder has mastered the style that best suits him. hes to sloppy and uncoordinated when he lets his hands go and would risk getting koed.
Deontay Wilder Boxing Skills = D+/C- Chin = B-/B Power = A/A+ It's a 12 round boxing match at the world level. Deontay is a terrible boxer, but even terrible boxers will land some punches against a great opponent. It's just that his REALLY count when they land.
All Wilder needs to do is improve his accuracy by 10% All Fury has to do is stay alive again for 12 rounds and dodge 476 punches
Wilder needs a chin transplant to survive and win this fight that for sure. He will get rocked and he will taste that sweet canvas.
He doesn't need more punches, he needs more punch variety. More jabs and left hooks, and not merely loading up on right hands. Fury will be ready for a repeat of the first fight, so it's up to Deontay to make a few changes.
No, it's not possible for Wilder to up his work rate and it's too late to make that change this far in his career. Upping his work rate leaves him open for more counters which is only going to spell doom for him as the fight goes on. Taking too many punches will only get him tired in the long run. He's better off fighting the way he always fought, it's successful and highly effective. What Wilder has clearly improved is his patience. That is highly effective for him and also leaves his opponents on their toes not knowing what to expect and when to expect it.
As someone above said, it’s not about punching more, it’s about more variety. When Tyson rolls/ducks, throw the upper cut. Use the left hook more, and bang Fury’s body.
Fury only threw 327 punches last fight and connected on 84,,Wilder threw 430 and connected on 71. Nether man was a workhorse but if Wilder will throw at Fury's chest he'll eventually find his head. Question is will Fury risk throwing more and getting nailed
