WBO wasn’t a major sanctioning body at the time of those fights. Holder if IBF, WBC and WBA was undisputed.

No. Wrong again. Rahman was made full WBC Champ in 2005 when Vitali kept failing to get back into the ring.

I know when the WBO title was created. I agree it wasn't a "major" sanctioning body when it was initially created. But Lennox Lewis never held it. And by the time Lewis had retired, Wlad Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko, Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison and nearly all the top heavyweights had held it.

So to just dismiss it is bull ****.

My point is YOU DON'T HAVE TO HOLD ALL THE BELTS to be the WORLD heavyweight champion.

You never have. Because there were always belts floating around. There were Negro heavyweight champions and Caucasian heavyweight champions and World Boxing Organization champions, and International Boxing Organization champions, and Police Gazette Champions, and National Boxing Association champions, and British Boxing Board of Control champions, World Boxing Association champions, and World Boxing Council Champions, and International Boxing Federation champions and World Athletic Association champions, and World Boxing Federation champions ... Joe Frazier became the heavyweight champion of SEVEN STATES (not 50 states ... but seven) when he beat Mathis. SEVEN STATES.

You have never had to hold all those goddamn belts to be the WORLD champion.

I don't know if people on this site are just HARDCORE JOSHUA FANBOYS or are simpletons. I prefer to think they are just fanboys.

Because you become the World champion by beating the world champion. Or you become the world champion when the top two heavyweights fight and a winner is named.

It's very simple. It always has been.

The only people mucking it up are fanboys who refuse to accept the truth or those who spread links with bad information.

Rahman won the "interim" WBC title in 2005. That's what I said. I was there. I talked to him. I sat ringside. I talked to him afterward. Vitali was still champ.

Vitali was still RING champion and WBC champ in 2005.

    AND WHO CARES?

What does any of this have to do with Saturday?

    Jesus Christ.

The #1 undefeated heavyweight is fighting the #2 undefeated heavyweight for the WORLD heavyweight championship on Saturday.

The winner will be presented with the RING championship belt and he'll join the great heavyweights of all time who held that distinction of being THE WORLD CHAMPION.

Nothing you can type will change that. Sorry. Not even Hasim Rahman being full WBC champ for six WHOLE days in 2005. (LOL)

Rahman was WBC Champ until he lost to Maskaev in August 2006. Get your facts straight before posting.

    Until he retired late 2005.

"He is done for good. He retires," Boente said.

With the retirement, Rahman, who had been the WBC interim champion, will become the full titleholder joining IBF champion Chris Byrd, WBA titlist John Ruiz and WBO beltholder Lamon Brewster as claimants to the heavyweight championship.

If that's actually how you read that sentence, then simpleton it is.

Byrd and Raham were #1 and #2 in 2006. A fight between them wouldn't have and was never expected to crown an undisputed champ.

No man, no it isn’t different, it is absolutely astonishing that people who care enough about boxing to spend time posting on a boxing forum would have so much trouble digesting the OP’s point, which is factual and not up for debate. You don’t just get to decide today that you just arbitrarily decided to start ignore boxing history/tradition because it doesn’t suit your agenda.

Larry Holmes was presented with the RING championship belt after he beat the last RING World heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. Just like Ezzard Charles was presented with the RING championship belt after he beat the last RING World heavyweight champion Joe Louis.

When Ali retired, Holmes was already the WBC champ. The WBA held a four-man tourney, and crowned John Tate its the champ. Tate then lost to Mike Weaver. Ali returned and fought Holmes. Holmes stopped Ali. And Holmes was presented with the RING belt.

When Louis retired, the National Boxing Association named the winner of Charles and Walcott the NBA champ. The British Boxing Board of Control named the winner of Bruce Woodcock and Lee Savold the champ. Louis returned and fought Charles. Charles won. RING presented Charles with the belt. The Brits still recognized Savold. Then Louis stopped Savold. And the BBofC said, forget it, Charles is our champ, too.

Today, if the BBoC had been a boxing org like the WBO, Louis probably would've gotten a belt. But the Brits decided to just recognize Charles as champ BECAUSE Charles WAS THE WORLD CHAMPION and they recognized they were being idiots.

The last RING Champ today is/was Tyson Fury.

Whether you still consider Fury the WORLD champion (like Louis and Ali) or not, he's one of the top two undefeated heavyweights fighting Saturday night ... and winner will be the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.

#1 vs. #2 or Ring champ vs his top contender. However you want to view it.

The winner Saturday is the KING of the heavyweights and will be recognized as THE WORLD champ.
