I've got Mercer on points in this one. Thoughts?

    I, too, think Morlocks KO3

But in an alternate universe where Morlocks doesn't crash land in the ring and rip both their heads off, Mercer beats Ellis.

Nonsense...Ellis neatly outpoints Mercer. Mercer is being somewhat overrated here...and remember, he was rather crude and easy to hit...something Jimmy would have been glad to take advantage of with that fast, hard, sneaky right hand of his and his sophisticated boxing skills Ellis beat Bonavena with room to spare, outsmarted Quarry, and really slammed George Chuvalo, virtually shutting the Canadian out in winning a lopsided decision. Ellis lost only to the Ali's and Fraziers before he faded.

Ellis on points. If old Larry could do it, then Jimmy can imo.

Jimmy Ellis wins this one on points, unanimously. During the WBA Heavyweight Tournament to find a successor to the Prime Muhammad Ali, who was stripped of his title in 1967, due to his Draft Evasion conviction, Ellis fought masterfully. Jimmy stopped future Liston conquer Leotis Martin, who was choking on his own blood, broken nose. Ellis would go on to easily decision Mildenberger beater Oscar Bonavena, in 15 rounds, even decking Oscar during that contest. On April 27 1968, he won the WBA title by winning a majority decision over Jerry Quarry in 15 rounds. Ellis would win a hotly disputed decision over challenger Floyd Patterson, on Sept 14 1968, in Stockholm, Sweden. Eliis was a good boxer with a snappy left jab and quick combos, as well as good lateral movement. His important losses were to Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. With Angelo Dundee in his corner, Jimmy would easily out box Ray Mercer.

A focussed, motivated Mercer (not of the Ferguson fight) wins this one. He was a tough hombre who fought above his size. He has a chance for a KO.

Mercer by KO, he's got 50lbs on Ellis, won the olympic gold knocking out all his opponents, brutally destroyed Morrison and gave Lennox and Evander fights to the wire.

Ellis isn't anywhere near old Holmes level
