Add the Waldo victory to it and you have two more impressive wins against vastly more dangerous opponents than Dempsey or Johnson or Marciano ever faced...
Fury ties him up when he gets close and leans on him to tire him out. Louis retires 13th round if its a 15 rounder, 12 rounds Fury wins a UD. Imo Fury just moves and jabs the whole night.
How highly do you rate the Wlad win though (genuine question)? To me it’s a fantastic name on his resume (the fight itself absolutely sucked but Tyson still won in his backyard so fair play to him) but I think Wlad was about at the end of the road. He was 39 had had about 70 fights and was about ready to be taken by a young, hungry guy. Being good enough to do it is another thing and Fury was, so he deserves credit but I don’t think he beat the best of Wlad either. It’s a bit like his brother against Lennox Lewis for mine only Lewis though greatly diminished still dug in to get the win over the younger lion.
Since when has Louis ever quit? Or even consider it. Even in his last fight, he was hit with everything and the kitchen sink and still refused to go down until he had nothing left.
It was against some no name cruiser weight named Rocky so it doesn't count Tyson Fury is a modern heavyweight bro. Im joshing you of course, the silly things people say on this forum jeez....
Wlad had dominated everyone since the Brewster loss and hadn't particularly shown any signs of slowing. He still had incredible physical shape and stamina. Past his absolute prime yes, but not many boxers in history beat that Wlad imo. The style match up was a very difficult one for Wlad ofcourse but it was a master class from Fury. I only watched it the one time but it looked like a shut out at the time. 2 years later Wlad won many more rounds against AJ, had him down and nearly out.
Wlad hadn't fought much of any worth since probably Povetkin 2 years before. Leapai, Pulev weren't great defenses and Jennings was untested and I thought Wlad looked poor in that fight. Fury was effective and negated Wladimir totally but I wouldn't call it a master class (last nights fight you certainly could). Wladimir landed next to nothing and didn't adapt until probably the final round but Tyson mugged and played cutie more than he landed himself. A clear win for Fury and a huge achievement but an underwhelming fight for mine. You're right about Wlad doing much better against Joshua but that maybe because of Joshua's mindset and gameplan. AJ was much more aggressive than Fury and was there to be hit hence Wlad doing a lot more and looking much better.
