Just because a slick, hard-hitting physical specimen like Fury did it doesn't mean everybody can just repeat the trick. That right hand Wilder landed on Fury in the first round quite likely knocks Dillian out cold. Nothing has changed. Wilder by KO2.
You know, if hard hitting guys like Whyte go right at Wilder, I'm not sure Wilder could take that. I think guys are going to try him now. Go straight at him. I don't think he can handle the pressure. I predicted if Fury would go straight at him he could find success. Wait on Wilder and he catches you from distance.
The problem Wilder has now is every good fighter will rush him, push him back. Fury has laid down a blue print, not an easy on to replicate because Fury is extremely talented. But we have to remember Wilder is 15-16 Stone.. and there are some big heavyweights. Wilder is now going to have problems with Fighters closing the distance, grabbing him, laying on him, making him move backwards and letting their hands go early. I'm not saying Whyte can do it, but he will try and it could end up a very tough nights work for Wilder.
Fury's a special fighter with special physical gifts. Others will try to do what he did against Wilder, most will fail and get starched in the process. But there's no doubt in my mind that other fighters who wouldn't have posed much threat to Deontay before will make the fights much more uncomfortable than they would have been, and some may pull it off. It'll be interesting to see!
Didn't Fury knock Wilder down with a body shot... like one body shot and Wilder went crashing into the canvas. Imagine the body snatcher... Wilder would land in the front row. Anyways... if Wilder gets retired in the trilogy (if he is stupid enough to activate) then he becomes irrelevant... and Fury becomes the target of Whytes ambitions to become WBC titleholder. Whyte is now rightfully ranked above Wilder the true peasant of the division.
The difference between Fury and everybody else is that his physical stature, his mass, makes him very difficult to hit cleanly when coming forward. These other guys don’t have that and would get iced trying to do that. It’s not just the coming forward that allowed Fury success, his distance control and sheer size, combined with his instincts and skill set, put him on a different plane. At least Saturday’s version was...
Something has changed though, we now finally have an answer to the question of what happens when Wilder steps up? Whyte is currently 3 on the Ring magazine list and he's in his prime. There's only one occasion on which Wilder has stepped up to this level of fighter and he got his ass royally handed to him. Maybe things will be different this time though. What kind of costume will our hero be wearing? Any weigh in news on that?
Whyte can't fight like Fury he's not tall enough or long enough he has to get in to Wilder's range to get off his shots
