Fore me to see him as an ATG? Just one more fight personally. He beats AJ then he is the 1st HW to clean out the division aka winning all the major belts since...

Why do people think that Luis Ortiz was a "celebrated amateur"?

    He wasn't.

Are they simply making assumptions based on his nationality?

No mention of Holmes? One of the best jabbers in boxing history. Ruled the division for a long time, many title defenses. Prime Holmes gives hell to any heavyweight in history.

Roy is right but for the wrong reasons (mainly pointing to the Wilder fight). It should also be noted that Roy said Tyson is a great fighter but not "yet" one of the greats so he's not discounting his level or potential. How can anyone disagree with this? It's true. I think most knowledgeable people on here have echoed that............that Fury would have to do much more to be considered ATG.

Hes right about wilder but I didnt hear most people calling out his record before.
People were starting to proclaim him the best heavyweight alive when in actuality yes, he had fought pretty much bums his whole career.
It's only not he loses all this **** comes out.
How can wilder himself get the credit but when hes beaten then his opponent doesn't? If we go by resumes then there is no other conclusion to make but that currently Joshua is much better than wilder too. Fought and beaten way better guys. Wilders biggest achievement is a draw with fury

Fury is far more skilled than AJ and tougher also.

He's right about Wilder, most of us thought it. But we can pick holes in any record, Roy's included. Simple fact is, should Fury beat Joshua he will be remembered as the best of his era and will be in the conversation alongside other greats. That's just what is going to happen whether you like it or not and I'm not going to question it any more than I do all the other great fighters. All you can aim for is to end up as part of the conversation and Fury is well on the way to that.

Some people perceive current fighters as either useless or suddenly an ATG.

Fury is a nowhere near an ATG. He has obvious talent but whether he beats AJ / Usyk etc is yet to be seen.

Wilder is not suddenly a useless fighter. He has been a good fighter for some time, with a thin record and carefully chosen opposition but with an amazing equalizer.

Personally I would like Hearn to offer Wilder mega-bucks for a Wilder-AJ showdown. I would expect AJ to win that exciting fight as he has always been a better, more rounded fighter.

That would then setup the super-fight with Fury for all the marbles.

Glass Jaw Roy would know. He fought a lot of mediocre opponents himself and was brutally KOed on 3 different continents. There was a time in the late 90's when I think Jones fought 4 or 5 civil servants in a row

The definition of All Time Great is highly subjective. I believe only 2 Heavyweights deserve tat status, Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali although, had he had the chance face better Fighters, Larry Holmes would also be up there.
Outside these 2 we are only talking about who was the best of their era .

All these posters bashed Wilder and called him a bum now these same posters are trying to make it out as some type of historic win for Fury. You can't have it both ways.:deal:

I think most sane boxing fans recognized how over protected and coddled Wilder has been his whole career. The lunatic fringe on here tried to act like he was some unbeatable force. Wilder is a Glass Jawed fighter with power. It isn't like we haven't seen this story many times before what happens to overprotected Glass Jawed fighters when they step up. I agree with Roy for the most part on this.
