Having a genius in your corner only helps if you have a student who is teachable. Breland has said so himself, Wilder is a poor student. He tries to teach him things to improve him as a fighter, but because it doesn't come to Wilder easily he loses motivation, scraps what Breland is trying to show him then hits the gym to do workouts he already excels at. The techniques Floyd utilises are so far beyond Wilder capabilities it would be like asking a dog to do your taxes.
This 100% Floyd would need AJ or Fury in the ring, or even Whyte!! Wilder fell in love with his power and relied on it with his athleticism He never really improved much on his fundamentals, which is sad, because if he had? He could of been the top guy Heart yes Speed yes Power big yes Toughness yes Skill and I.Q? A huge NO
Wilder is simply too stupid and ignorant to teach. When his mantra is he only needs to be perfect for 2 seconds, that's not someone who prioritises boxing skill.
Yeah we've all heard it before, even Browne vs Whyte... " I have 36 minutes to land a punch"... Those guys never succeed... you've failed from the onset with that mentality....
Deontay don't need Floyd messing with his corner! The bomb squad have got a secret weapon for the third fight! The bomb squad call it the Philly windmill!
No. Great fighters don't necessarily make good trainers. And Floyd is the type of guy (POS) that would hold back out of fear that his fighter could one day achieve more. I think JMM would be a great trainer, though.
I disagree with the ring IQ. Here's why. Although Wilder's resume isn't filled with ATG's, he has managed to accomplish quite a bit with his very limited skill set. I find it very difficult to believe someone could go as far as Wilder did with both lack of skill and a very low ring IQ. If you're honest, you know there have been many fighters that were more skilled than Wilder with Low ring IQ, that never came close to achieving what Wilder has. Just doesn't add up to me.
Yes I guess when you put it like that it probably isn't too bad Though I still think it's his belief in his power (the equaliser) and his natural athleticism that has taken him so far to be fair he has done a fair bit with his limited skillset and that is admirable
A fighters mindset can take them far. I agree. His athleticism separates him from a large part of the heavyweight pool as well. Perhaps it's a combination of ring smarts and athleticism that was the winning formula that allowed him to accomplish what he has. No need for skill. LOL
Floyd doesn't like Wilder much if memory serves correct. And as others have stated he's not a boxing trainer. Wilder can't be helped. He is what he is.
