I love Rocky Marciano and feel he’d try his best, maybe land some big shots on Liston. But I just can’t favor him to win. Stylistically this is a bad match for him

Liston didn't have a childhood, let alone a rough one.

 

Liston was knocked out (as in down for the count) twice in his career. Only once was he knocked out early and that was in a fight where most people thought was almost certainly fixed. On the contrary, Marciano went life and death with journeymen and dare I say club fighters, and either knocked them out late or sometimes even had to settle for points. Yet he's knocking out Liston... early? I'm no mathematician but something doesn't add up.

 

Again, I've asked you multiple times; When did Liston quit or show a lack of heart aside from Ali?

I'd love to see what contemporary opinions of the time were.

The trend has always been to prefer heavyweights of the prior few generations over the current crop (bitching about the current era of heavyweights has been going on ever since it started), so my guess is that was probably the case then.

His real name was Joe Rein and he was a highly respected boxing writer. Google him and I’m sure some of his works or even a tribute will pop up. I recall reading a very nice one written by our own (infrequently seen now) Stonehands aka Springs Toledo.

Marciano was 2 inch shorter and was 190lbs in his bouts!Marciano is not a swarmer!Marciano had a mix of Swarmer and Slugger but people only give Marciano credit for his Swarmer style when in fact he put 100% of his power behind each punch, sounds a bit like a slugger. Thing about a Swarmer is there often in more of a crouch and is trying to wear his opponent down and then KO the other guy. I couldn't really put slugger into terms into my mind so i turned to good old Wikipedia- Brawler If the out-fighter represents everything classy about boxing, the brawler (also known as the 'slugger', 'hard hitter' or 'one puncher') often stands for everything that's wrong with the sport. Hmm the bold sounds like Marciano - but yet Sluggers oftne don't have the Stamina to go beyond at most 7 rounds without beginning to lose some edge- examples-George Foreman,Sonny Liston,and I believe Earnie Shavers as well. So Marciano is hybrid between Slugger and Swarmer because he shows Many Slugger Attributes, and yet has the stance (somewhat) and Stamina of a Swarmer. Any way getting back to what we were talking about, what they're doing is taking fighters from different periods in their careers and comparing them to Prime marciano, to be honest Prime to Prime I give Marciano a chance with anybody that ever fought, does that mean I think he could win against any fighter no. The reason I give Marciano the edge is because he had unmatched Heart, His stamina gave him the ability to go many many rounds throwing his best punches and taking punishment and still be fresh, and finally his punching power was great and in both hands. He had KO power in either hand.
Marciano was drooped by the best lhw and by the champion JJW and beat them!Liston was beaten by LHW bum 175lbs Marshall and by Martin!Liston did not have power to keep Rocky down!
Also Liston punching power and chin are not good as Rocky!Rocky power,chin and stamina with heart would be the better than Martin and Machen who beat him!
Rocky had iron chin and only could be caught by sharper fast counterpuncher off balance which Liston wasn't!He was a slow boxer!Rocky did not have problems with Louis who was bigger man than Liston!

Satterfield was old man and he was LHW and yes Williams who was knocked by LHW and feather fisted Ali had glass jaw!Williams was or very young or too old??Decide please already esxcuse!
Besmanoff is stoped by TKO against Liston but knocked by old Archie eho was LHW!Besmanoff was also knocked in less time by George Chuvalo who needed only 3 rounds to do that!Burt Whitehurst was also knocked by old LHW Moore by KO bit Liston only defeated him twice by points!Liston power is way overrated!

 

Well Bob Satterfield LHW and feather fisted Ali also stopped Williams in 3 rounds!
Besmanoff and Whitehurst are stopped in less time by old Archie than by Liston!
Also Chuvalo knocked Besmanoff in 3 rounds and that is much less time Liston needed!I said that Ingo stopped Machen in less time than Liston and Moore stopped Besmanoff and Whitehurst in less time also!

 

If only he had a fraction of his hero's heart he would answer these questions.
