No because AJ has his own deal with Sky. All Matchroom UK shows will be on Sky Sports till contract is up.
Right I see. But matchroom finish with sky in 2021 so could all switch then I guess? Let’s say BJS fights canelo, could this be on both sky and DAZN UK?
Could be on both platforms. Eddie is gonna have to come out and address the situation regarding matchroom fighters fighting on US shows.
I’d imagine if the fighter will earn more on DAZN then they’d want to fight on there, unless SKY want to sign exclusive contracts with fighters (like they have with AJ) then it’s a free market and Eddie will flog his fighters to whichever platform on a fight by fight basis. I would think Sky would have expected to secure the UK rights to Canelo v BJS , not now though.
Once the sky deal finishes yes but the confusion is current Matchroom USA shows with UK Sky/matchroom fighters on the card. Who is gonna be broadcasting these shows in the UK?
Interesting times. I guess it’s inevitable all matchroom shows whether uk or USA or whatever will be just on DAZN and no need for sky sports any more. Just wonder how long that will be
I think that’s pretty clear , DAZN UK will be showing Matchroom USA cards instead of Sky so any fighters Eddie wanted to put on those will be on DAZN.
He has his fighters signed to Matchroom Boxing. The breakdown will be if the names promoter of the show is Matchroom USA and will likely be held in the USA it will be a DAZN card. If the promoter of the show is Matchroom UK and the event is held in the UK it will be on Sky. Hearn can put whatever fighters and fights on either promotion providing the TV channel is happy with the event. Matchroom has also already launched Matchroom Italy and Spain and these will also likely be on DAZN as they have deals with them in the territories and they are paying the rights fees. Hearn has a contract to provide a certain number of events and PPVs to Sky aslong as he provides that he will keep up his end of the deal Obviously only certain fights are deemed PPV in the UK. So hes not going to randomly throw a random fighter on PPV unless it was against a PPV level fighter.
Anything goes on PPV - if the PPV mugths continue to buy, Eh Day Earn and the fighters keep on taking. There is no minimum level of fighter for PPV, absolutely anything goes - total mismatches, non title fights, British level fights, crocked retired fighters, exhibition fights, deluxe puddings.
Out of interest what fights do you deem PPV worthy? And what do you think is not PPV worthy over last few years?
If they make money , they'll be deemed PPV worthy. Eddie did mention that the broadcasters are asking for more 'YouTube' fights and being that a recent one was the most successful for DAZN in terms of sign ups I can see that they'll want a few of these quite early on in their UK launch to drive subscriptions.
They already go for PBC fights so that wont change. They won't pick up every PBC card though going forward.
