here's footage of LL vs Holyfield, the last years before the S-HW take over.

    This content is protected

these men fought 40 plus and 50 plus fight careers, with at least 15 great & noted names on each of their respected resumes...

now when did any S-HW fights look like this, when???

maybe a couple of the Klits brothers fights, but in the whole 20 years of S-HW Giants, how many great and hard, and busy, action packed dog fights have we ever seen?

where as over the 100 years prior, the Heavyweight Division has provided 100's of these fights, 100's.

how many of all these Giants have 15 great and noted names on their Resumes???

their TWO Different Divisions, and only One of them has Elite fighters in it, the other is Tier 2 and 3 fighters.

Second Class, and sadly at times even clearly visible 3rd class skill or technique.

    TRUE!

They faught more frequently and also dodged a less number of good opponents. Thats why i rank Holy and Holmes Top 5 GOAT and not Lewis, Klitschko etc.
It's also sad that the refs today let theese giants foul at will. I can't remember Wladimir gets a warning for his consequently holding and pushig opponents down, every time a short man comes in range.

In my opinion they should establish a new weightclass. Maybe 220 lbs. And they really should do some pr, marketing, idk... whatever to make this division and cruiserweight attractive.

Imagine the golden era of HW Boxing. The ATG's:

    Max Baer 200-210
    Joe Louis 195-205
    Rocky Marciano ~185
    Floyd Patterson ~185
    Sonny Liston 210-215
    Ali 64-67 205-210
    Joe Frazier 200-210
    Foreman 72-74 215-220
    Ali 70-76 210-225
    Ken Norton ~210
    Earnie Shavers 205-215
    Larry Holmes 205-225
    Mike Tyson 215-220
    Evander Holyfield 210-220
    Tommy Morrison 220-225

I guess some of the most entertaining Boxers of all time! (kinda chronolgical with their ~weight at their prime)

I'd take this post a lot more seriously if it wasn't slating SHWs, which don't actually exist, and gushing over Lennox Lewis.

    Being accurate would help too.

    I don't gush over LL.

I gush over True SKILL and the Credit Due it.

I don't applaud Hype OVER True Talent, and I like Fury and the Klits and a few other of the Giants.

BUT it's is painfully clear, they are NOT as SKILLED, simple.
and it is VISIBLE right there in front of you on these two videos

Charlie Firpo - a Division with a HEIGHT attached to it, 6'5" plus and over 225 lbs or so and up = S-HW.

WUT??? Lennox was ducked for years and took on all comers. Holmes ducked plenty of people, especially in his later years. As soon as Lennox considered avoiding the Vitali rematch aged 38, he retired.

The Klits as boring as they were took on all comers.

Don't get me wrong: I don't blame Lennox or the Klitschkos explitcitly. I dont ascertain who is to blame for it but I just name the fact that the competition in HW is very bad in the last ~25-30 Years. It is a very rare phenomenon when Champions fight good / the best opponents . And i don't mean a big name with 40-45 years like Ray Mercer. Most of Wladimirs opponents were BS! Either too small opponents who got wrestled down, over aged and overweight guys, or Journeyman.

So Wilder - Fury I just happend because Fury was said to be done after this drug & depression era.
And Wilder - Fury II was just a consequence because of Wilder - Fury 1 happend.

I'm just sick of 2 lame title defenses per year with 3-4 Rounds and 20 punches per round.

Here is just an example of Alis record: in exactly 4 years he fought 16 Times
    72-09 Floyd Patterson
    72-11 Bob Foster
    73-02 Joe Bugner
    73-03 Ken Norton
    73-09 Ken Norton
    73-10 Rudi Lubbers
    74-01 Joe Frazier
    74-10 George Foreman
    75-03 Chuck Wepner
    75-05 Ron Lyle
    75-06 Joe Bugner
    75-10 Joe Frazier
    76-02 J.P. Coopman
    76-04 Jimmy Young
    76-05 Richard Dunn
    76-09 Ken Norton
That's what i call challenge! Ali was over 30 and fought 4 Times per year. Predominantly against good opponents.

Foreman weighed close to 225 against Norton in 1974 and 225 against joe murphy in 1972,224 against leroy caldwell, and he weighed 226-230 at 18 in the amateurs. He clearly was cutting weight when fought under this weight , you can see his natural weight post Ali, he weighed between 226 and 232 and never touched a weight in a gym, george had huge Frame, however a guy like Tommy Morrison was clearly naturally lighter and smaller, look at his early fights and his frame, Weight does not determine who is the bigger man, the frame does.
0:09 the guy says the weights. 226 pounds in the amateurs here

I have been saying for years and years now Call the cruiserweights heavyweight (as it is in the Amateurs) and let’s celebrate them as the true decedents of the traditional heavyweight class. Leave the new SHW division for the giants who before steroids made only a small impression.

History shows us that until the failed drug test era, giant sized men were the least successful humans at boxing. There were always the odd tough one that made it into the rankings or win a championship, but no real domination until enhancing themselves.

I agree with you in part but the generations grow. I am 1.86 (6'1 1/2) and about 230 pounds and I feel mediocre in size compared to the new generations. today is not like in the past, before the big man was the exception and was clumsy, nowadays the big and athletic man is more usual

    Back in the old days.
But seriously, if, as you point out, the Lewis v Holyfield fight was the last of its kind then if feels like things have changed very fast. That's only twenty years ago, that's nothing really, but already Lewis, is seen the last of a kind!

No One said they were the last of their kind... I'm saying that Time Frame, you know in & around then and the next few years that followed.

the Point Of the Post, is...

1, we No Longer have a Heavyweight Division.
2, the S-HWs we now have are Poorer in SKILL and Overall Ring Craft, than the whole 100 or so years of Boxing before them.

it is a 2cd & 3rd Rate Division and the Video Evidence is right there before us,
never mind the many facts & stats that some of our good posters have already contributed to this thread.

Out of curiosity… where would you place Fury and Wlad? Are they elite fighters - or do they belong in tier 2 or 3?

Tier 2 for Fury, I'd say the same for the Klits, however arguments could be made fore them, but Fury is VISIBLY 2cd tier.
