I wouldn't say one of the best in history, but I'd say one of the best for Floyd's resume & of that decade. I agree you are correct in highlighting this fight. Guys like Wilfredo Benitez turned pro age 15- defended his title against Ray age 21. Ray was 23. Tyson was 20 when he won his title. Floyd Patterson was 21, Cassius Clay was 22. So if some say Canelo was green-it makes me wonder what was Floyd considered who fought for a major title in 1998, 1 year 11 months to be exact as a pro with 17 fights.. Years as pro/ for title fight Total Fights Age Floyd 1 yr 11 months 17 21 Canelo 5 36 21 (didn't include silver or diamond belts) SO by the time he faces Mayweather he's been a pro for 8 years? 1st time ever hearing a person can be green as an athlete (8) years as a pro. 43 fights & 1/2 a dozen title defenses. Unless we include those diamond belts & the NABF this dude had a dozen title defenses.yet we're told he was still a rookie being taken advantage of by Floyd. Cintron, Mosley, Lopez, none of these wins gave him credibility to fight Floyd, I can only wonder who else did he need to fight and for how much longer? LOL! His fight with Paul Williams was halted due to PW's accident. Álvarez, Ring magazine's #1 ranked light middleweight and the unified WBA (Regular) and WBC champion-yet that is a rookie version to Mayweather-haters, wow! I wonder if some feel judge Ross was right when he scored the fight even for Saul/Floyd. I think it was an outstanding win for him to dominate a champ who had multiple defenses & again was of the same age as all our ATGs were when they had to prove they were a class above the rest. At 21, Patterson, Clay, Leonard, Tyson, Mayweather all proved they were ready...as green fighters. Saul proved as good as he is and would go on to be pretty darn good....he didn't lose to FLoyd because he was green. He lost because he didn't pass the ATG test- win with the chance comes...not when one--hopes they are ready.
I can understand where you are coming from but GGG fought Canelo in his prime and GGG was on the slide
No lie your answer threw me off for a second Ward been retired since 2016 Canelo ain't fight at 168 til 2019 they never shared of competed in the same division. Very slick to try and change it but face it bro there is no fighter whose doing better and no fighter greater in this era than Canelo, Ward ain't no ATG yet Canelo is
Not even top 50. Canelo was seen as a hype job at the time. Not green but definitely not even close to being a finished product. Fight def was one of the most boring of all time.
Oh so a 36 year old fighter in his 5th weight class is prime? PBF last prime fight was against JMM in 2009. Log off.
Golovkin was mandatory for Canelo's WBC MW title in 2016. They fought in 2017. Even if he was past his prime in 2017, Canelo was debuting at 160 for their fight. All things considered, not a bad tarde off. Only a GGGoon would think it was not a fair fight.
You can't talk facts with these guys. These are the same guys that believe that GGG was KO heavyweights, that GGG would fight anyone between 154-168, that GGG would beat Hagler and other ATGs, that tell themselves that Ward ducked GGG even though there is clear evidence that GGG's team declined to fight Ward. Of course they're going to say GGG won, even though he did not win. lol
