I think Walcott wins convincingly, maybe via stoppage

I love Walcott but a prime Qawi was an absolute monster. The Qawi that took Holyfield life and death over 15 would stop Walcott in my opinion.

 

Great matchup. Walcott by KO. Qawi has tricks but so does Walcott. A prime Walcott (isn’t even the one that won the belt) has a lot more notches on his belt then Qawi. Qawi isn’t dissimilar from Marciano in style (looks smoother but without the power and stamina). We saw what Walcott did to him for 13 rounds before going to sleep. Qawi doesn’t have the power to break Walcott down but would be a fun fight

 

Holyfield couldn't KO the best Qawi he fought, but Walcott could?

Walcott's absolutely prime was between Louis 1 to Marciano 1. That's when he won the title.

Also, Marciano and Qawi don't fight the same. The only solid comparison is both fight coming forward. Qawi's stamina is definitely comparable to Marciano's.

 

The power that Holyfield demonstrated against Qawi isn't analogous to the power he had once he got on the stuff and bulked up. Surely you can see the difference. Yes, Walcott did have more power than THAT Holyfield.

 

Disagree whole heartedly. Holyfield knocked him out in the second meeting, see no reason why Walcott who was bigger then Holy was at the time couldn’t accomplish it. Stylistically Marciano and Qawi are very close they both did a lean and crotch style. Qawi was a lot more refined and defensive oriented though as opposed to Marcianos aggressive style. But similar in that they made people lean into them to cut the gap in a very similar fashion. Qawi said he tried to imitate Frazier but looks more like Marciano on film to me anyway. I also don’t believe Qawi was as good stamina wise. Wasn’t terrible but really wasn’t as good.

 

Qawi was bordering alcoholism I'm the first fight. He was gone by the 2nd, losing to the likes of Ocasio, and still gave Holyfield issues. Qawi of the first fight was made of iron. Spinks, a cataclysmic puncher, couldn't put a dent in him. Foreman took 7. Holyfield hit him as flush as can be several times and took 19 rounds to get to him. Both Holyfield was 190, Walcott was 195, that isn't significant at all. Holyfield was also clearly the bigger puncher.

Qawi actually had a jab, and defence. His method of attacking was more like Tyson than Marciano or Frazier, he was a front foot counter-puncher who loved his jab and worked the rest of his offence well. Marciano was a straight swarmer, in that he went straight at people, with little head-movement and was an easy target. Qawi wasn't, and Qawi would make Walcott pay for missing.

I agree Marciano has a stamina edge, but that's all it is. An edge.

 

Holyfield had more power at HW? I disagree. He obliterated his competition at CW, and it wasn't bad competition either.

Based on what? His power in overrated based on a single punch. He wouldn't have KOed Charles like that had they fought another 40 times.

 

Think it has less to do with comparisons in power and more to do with Qawis chin against prime opposition. Not saying he gets flattened in a round but most likely Walcott by KO or Decision.

 

Right, a durable Charles who hadn't been KO'd in how long before that or even after? I don't see CW Holyfield KO Charles in one punch.. do you? Ray had a good beard and was KO'd by Walcott. What he had like 120 fights and was KO'd like 8 times or something. Shoot, Marciano said Walcott hit him the hardest. Those are good enough for me, and more than CW holyfield can produce.

 

Qawi via decision - JJW would be under constant pressure 3 mins a round and DMQ was better defensively than both Louis and Marciano.
Walcott would find Qawi a little too busy for him me thinks
