Bit of a random question... Looking at his record, I'm going to guess that Burns' best fighting weight was around 173lb. So, with a weigh-in (let's say a half-day... 12hours?), he should make 168lb pretty comfortably. If you pick a 1985 guy against 1905 Burns, let's call it a half-way house - 1945 rules, gloves, ref, etc. If you pick a 1945 guy against 1905 Burns, let's call it a half-way house - 1925 rules, gloves, ref, etc. I'm going to say around 15 guys beat him. What say you? (please humour me!)
Quite a few I think. I don't think Burns was anything that special, he just had good attributes for fighting bigger opponents, most of which he fought were pretty crap. He really has a fairly shallow resume of Hart and O'Brien, and then not much of note. Prime for prime I'd actually pick Kid McCoy to beat him.
Hundreds. I'll start with Reggie Johnson, Joe Calzaghe, Omar Sheika, Charles Brewer... you can fill in the rest. Let me know when you are done. I stay up real late.
Same here. McCoy > Burns. Burns has decent skills on offense ( not defense ), some power and a lot of guts. I also think some middles beat, him, some super middles bet him, and a lot of light heavyweights beat him.
