Saunders is fighting Canelo, so what now for Callum Smith? Saunders is reportedly getting $8m for the Canelo fight so it's more than likely Smith asked for more, so no matter who he fights it's going to be a big drop down from that potential purse, but I'd imagine he'd want the next biggest fight possible.

Hearn mentioned Danny Jacobs as a plan B for Smith in this scenario but he can be ruled out for now as he recently said he wants another tune up type fight next before he goes after one of the champions. Benavidez can be ruled out, his next two fights are already mapped out. I could see them trying to get Caleb Plant, that would be a well paid fight I'd imagine, not sure if a deal could be done, but he fought in the last few weeks so should be ready for a fight in the mid to late summer, so I do think he'll be considered. What about Eubank jnr? I'd happily see that fight made and that would see both earn good money. I wonder if that's a possibility. I personally hope he fights Ryder next, as I'm sure many others do, but this fight probably isn't financially lucrative enough for Smith. If he does fight Ryder next, I think it'll be because it's his last resort. So who do we all think Callum Smith will fight next?

He will fight a nobody at SMW or he will fight, Jacob's / Eubank type of middleweight moved up to SMW type opponent.

He will be waiting for the winner of Canelo vs Saunders and banking its Canelo, then he will look again for a big cash out then imo. So he likely won't be fighting anyone with a pulse imo.

Waste of a career, even if I don't think he's that good. Still think he's the most likely person to hurt Canelo badly though and probably the most dangerous opponent power wise.

Can't believe Smith has let the Alvarez fight slip away. Eubank is the only money fight out there for him now and potentially a big banana skin. Moronic from Smith and his advisors !

Jacobs, who will provide a much tougher test than either Benevidez or Plant.

I think Canelos team also wanted BJS more as they feel he is less of a puncher and slower at SM.

    Smith has a couple of options keep ticking over at SM with wins and the Canelo fight will come back around. I think his options are;

    SM
    Jacobs defence in America
Ryder rematch at Anfield on a PPV
Or Plant fight on the Pacquiao card in Saudi as not enough money in that yet to get a PBC fighter to DAZN. Particularly with PBC intent on matching plant and benavidez in 2030

    LH
    Bivol title fight
Ramirez if he signs to matchroom

plenty of fights for smith to build a legacy but he better get a move on.

I seen reports last week that both Smith and Saunders agreed terms with Canelo. If so what is Callum meant to do if Canelo decides not to fight him.

Jacobs has ruled himself out, as mentioned in the OP. I'm wondering who he will actually fight next, who's in the running? Cos Jacobs isn't.

Nothing he could do about this. It was team Canelo who made the choice.

Looking at the DAZN proposal it's GGG in sept so Smith won't be getting Canelo anytime soon.

Personally I feel Ryder deserves as another shot.

The plank has very little options, tesco Joe doesn't want a good fighter to fight him, as it would hurt planks earning potential if he gets beat. They will fight soft opponents and hope canelo comes knocking again in 2020

    Who cares ?

Has allowed himself to become Mr Irrelevant. Shame as he's a talented fighter. Needs to get busy and back in the spotlight.

It’s not Plant. Benavidez having a mandatory then Yildrim then early next year its Plant in a unification. So the pair of them are tied up. Saunders and Canelo are tied up, Jacobs doesn’t fancy it yet. It’s got to be John Ryder.

I've just looked at the WBA rankings and I have admit I've not heard over half of these guys. Only ones I know are Jacobs, Ryder, Parker and Dirrell. Chudinov holds a version of a trinket WBA so that may be possible.

Smith has been convinced by Joe Gallagher that he is PPV regardless of opponent.

Whilst I would like and hope it to be Ryder, I expect they will go looking through the rankings for an easy(easier) opponent.
