Yes but you can still say that Tyson was prime in 1987.

I did and I don't see Moran landing much. Johnson toyed with him.

It's also funny that you mention clearly past his best Johnson when the thread is about 1908 Jack. O'Brien, Moran, Willard... all these fights were past Johnson best and outside of Willard nobody did much against him.

Maybe we should start blaming 1988 Tyson for late 1990s and early 2000s loses?

Neither throw or land a punch munch. How's that going to work vs Tyson?

Johnson best filmed performance was 1909, vs Tommy Burns. He was 30 years old. In 1909 he was 30-31, his prime. No way was Johnson past his best in 1909 for O'brien and GunBoat Smith.

    Check your dates, you'll see.

And? Holmes didn't last 5, Berbick didn't last 3, Spinks didn't last 2. You've picked two specific cases which could be classed as anomalies. Johnson wasn't as durable, as those two were, despite being even more negative.

Well you also have Tillis and Mitch Green vs a near prime Tyson. They lasted the distance. So it can be done, even if not often.

I find this one genuinely difficult to call.

On paper Johnson has the tools to nullify Tyson's offence, but it is difficult to tell whether he would be able to do this, based on what we have seen him against.

Johnson would probably win the psychological battle before the opening bell for whatever that is worth.

Tyson was around 19 when he faced those two.....is 19 "near Prime"/.......where was Johnson when he was 19......pimping in a ***** house ?

No fighter, no matter as talented as they are are "Prime " or near it while 19. Full stop.

Also, how many skinny Middle weights did Mike meet on his way up or as a champ ?

I said he was near his prime, which arguably started at age 20. So yes, he was near it.

    Non sense.

This so called psychological battle has been peddled by Teddy Atlas in Tysons after prisons comeback.....nobody ever made statements like that before the jail stint....

Plus what evidence do you have except rose colored news paper articles or fan books that Johnson was this Psycho mind boggling x ray read your mind monster, you never met the man and film of his "Psycho mind " do not exist to support that claim........granted washed up, he could not "psych out" a low skill open as a barn door Rodeo rider in Oaf Willard.

Conclusion, this is a non event straight out of a time machine, Johnson will go down quick, he aint never seen the combo of size speed and punch variety plus mega power, ever.

Now Johnson coming up in the 80's is a different story as long as he keeps his zipper locked otherwise the temptation is 100 fold as far as Ladies is concerned plus drugs and alcohol, it was his undoing then and a Leopard does not change his skin.

He was TWO years away from his Berbick fight.........and was full prime around Holmes and Spinks.

At 19 he was green no matter what talent or potential he had. End of.

Yes. It happened 4 times in 35 fights. All 4 were guys who fought incredibly negatively, lost on points and had iron chins. They all were bigger and tougher Johnson whilst Tyson stopped guys better than all 4 in less than 5 rounds each.

Though I feel like he had a greater upside than his times allowed him to develop, Johnson simply doesn't have the tools to deal with a prime Tyson.

    Over quickly.
