I'm assuming people think he will put a lemuix style display on, only thing with that is canelo is not David lemuix!
He doesn’t school him. I think he’s going to try and replicate what Khan tried to do. Use the feet, jab and move, angles and avoid the big shot. I think Canelo will let him as well. I can see him giving up a few early rounds just to burn that gas tank of Saunders. I keep hearing that Saunders is not a 168, which I solidly agree on, but neither is Canelo.
I can’t see Saunders knocking Canelo out and unless he’s punch perfect and it’s beyond repute I can’t see him winning on the cards. Think it’ll be a Canelo win but with Saunders coming out of it with plenty of credit.
lol this, the dude is 30 and can't even train properly anymore when in his PRIME. How did he even get a title at 168? SMW is a dog**** division, lucky for him Canelo will stack the deck in Vegas and take this title off of him.
Totally agree re tactics. Canelo ain't a natural 168er either but unlike Saunders he is an absolute tank and can get away with it.
Very true. Lemieux was past it as well. Canelo would have had him out of there in less than 5 rounds that night.
Hope you're ready to get called out on that post after that fight.. not saying by me you sound very optimistic tho
I think Saunders is like Fury in that he boxes to the level of the opponent in front of him. Hence we've seen superb performances when there was some fear factor (e.g. Lemieux) but then also seen him box like absolute **** when he's expected to walk through someone (e.g. Akavov). Billy hits hard enough to keep his opponents honest but doesn't have the power to stop Canelo and I just can't see the judges giving it to Billy in the states even if he boxes his head off. He'll need a knockout to win on points.
Problem with this is that Fury boxed very well against Wilder and Klitschko, but also barely lost a round against the likes of Chisora, Hammer and Johnson. Saunders boxed well against Lemieux, but Lemieux at middleweight is really probably closer to Chisora than Klitschko in terms of their respective levels. Indeed, I’m not sure if I’d make Lemieux a favourite to beat Lee, Eubank or Ryder, all of whom took plenty of rounds from Saunders. Comparison doesn’t work for me on that basis.
Saunders is stepping in with a whole different beast in Canelo. Not to discredit Fury but this isn't a jab and grab, predictable, old, slow, robotic Wlad. This is about as an elite level boxer as you can get in this era and he looks to be getting better and better. Saunders is a bum, he has all the talent but none of the discipline, he's fought nobody anywhere near the level of Canelo and it would be a far far bigger upset than Fury v Wlad.
I don’t like BJS as a man but I can see the potential he had. However, he hasn’t lived a fighters life, he has been far too inactive, his level of opponents hasn’t prepared him for Canelo and I feel he’s just waited around for a cash out fight. He’ll lose with credit but lose he will.
