Kownacki will always have a job making pastry dough in the pizza place for the bomb squad and Mr Haymon...... That's all that matters.
I was duly unimpressed by Kownacki after the Arreola fight. First of all, Chris Arreola is like a movie zombie that won't go away. His name is so tarnished at this point, that beating him is no better than defeating any other journeyman you can find. The fact that Kownacki went the distance with him said it all. Kownacki is not a natural fighter. He is an arm puncher, a plodder, an average guy with no understanding of leverage and the importance of speed. He seems like a nice guy, but to me he has journeyman written all over him. This KO is just the beginning....there will be others. It's not his fault that the media likes to hype any undefeated prospect it can find. And for the Poles in Brooklyn, they had a fun little run. But I highly doubt that Kownacki can beat anyone further up the food chain than the guys he already defeated.
Although I had some reservations about Kownacki's game, I was pretty shocked by this result (and I say this with no disrespect to Helenius). Nevertheless, relegating Kownacki to gatekeeper status on the basis of one loss seems a bit extreme to me and like others here, I'll now be waiting to see how he performs in his next fight to determine if the loss has affected his psychological game and if so, how it will translate in terms of his behaviour in the ring -whether it be for better or for worse. Only then will I be able to gauge his true power level in fairness, until then I can but wait and see.
Not that's not what I was saying at all. I made it clear my list was from before now, hence why I didn't include Helenius. You can keep trying alter what I was claiming to fit your view but that doesn't change the fact he was never, ever top 10. Which win earned him a top 10 ranking exactly, what victory was so worthy that it meant he jumped pass so many superior fighters with better resumes at the time and when I say time I mean before the Helenius fight. He wasn't top ten when he beat Szpilka, nobody breaks the top 10 beating him. He wasn't top 10 when he then beat Kiladze. He wasn't top 10 when he beat Martin either or when he beat Washington or Arreola. I could give you 10 names better than him for any of those periods in time. Lol at calling me moron when you I have now twice stated the list wasn't from now and you still don't get that, who's the fricken moron, when you can't even seem to understand basic English.
He looked embarrassingly atrocious and was knocked out by a guy that was considered done years ago. No I think people are gauging this just fine.
I think that's a fair shout. The thing I don't get is, absolutely nobody was hyping this dude as a future champ. If the highest even his fans would put him is fringe top ten, then it seems pretty crappy for "fans" of the sport to rip him this badly for losing. It's just weird for that range of fighter losing to illicit the reaction I've seen. Nobody eats their own like boxing fans, and it's their toxicity that really takes a lot of joy out of the sport. I wish I could enjoy an upset without a million idiots ripping on the guy who lost as being a worthless bum.
Are people being to hard or are they just being truthful? I don't think people are being hard on him. Just truthful. He was sloppy in his offense and defense. The Ko wasn't some lucky shot. He was eating punches all night in the fight.
He is the Polish Roman Greenberg. Remember him? Roman Greenberg? I have no idea why his name enetered my head, maybe I'm going "Full Biden". Anyway, In all seriousness, Kownacki is bang average.
Kownacki has heart Kownacki has pride Kownacki needs to stop boxing, before he takes so many head-shots that he can't talk to his grandchildren. Dude - if you can't move your head, the big boys will connect. Bravery will only get you so far, but I don't want to see what you will look like in your 70's Quit now.
Kownacki was a top 20 guy that was being way overhyped into the top 10 so he could pad Wilder’s record - had Wilder won and defeated Fury. He was exposed by Helenius who was a good fighter before his injury with a stamina issue that was his own Achilles heal. not hating on Kownacki he was an active fighter and had a good motor and a tough chin. That can get you pretty far but not too far. Helenius opened him up with good body shots and then caught him coming with a nice shot right on the chin. Kownacki should check his bank account and depending on how it looks either get out now or start planning his exit with one or two more paydays. As for Helenius a rematch vs Washington would be ideal since he was winning that fight and then maybe a shot at a belt before he himself should retire as well.
Not a single one of these picks are controversial and I 100 % agree with. I would back Jenninge,Takam, Hrgovic and Gassiev against Kownacki. I would also pick Martin to win rematch in a 12 rounder.
Yes, it looks like Kownacki has no understanding or ability to learn how to get full leverage into a shot. Everything he throws is upper body with no engagement of the legs. That's probably the reason for his high workrate, since punching like that doesn't expend as much energy as using your entire body in synergy, but it drastically limits your power and offensive options. I'm a little surprised actually how far Kownacki managed to come with such a basic style. It's a credit to his heart and guts (no pun intended) that he was even able to beat the likes of Martin at all. Guys with that style usually get exposed long before they even sniff the top twenty. His style's got brain damage written all over it though, so if he has any long term goals in the sport he'll need to drastically alter his style, and frankly I don't see that as being realistic given what he's got to work with. I don't usually call on fighters to retire after one loss, but now that Kownacki's bubble's burst I don't see there being much more hope for him and he's going to end up taking a hell of a lot more punishment if he continues to fight in the way he has been. He'll still be able to get some decent paydays, but his long term health will be at serious risk.
You left one out, the one that cost him the fight; Kownacki has to stop eating weighing 265 pounds has implications
