Big John had the more proven legit background. Lenny lost in unlicensed matches to Cliff Field and Johnny Waldron, so his record against pro boxers rather than tough guys was patchy at best.

The unlicensed environment would probably suit Big John down to a tee; as is well documented he's not one to restrict himself to Queensberry endeavours, so it isn't like he would be out of his element on the cobbles.

The only doubt I would have about picking Big John would be punching power. Aside from anything else, Lenny seemed to have noteworthy power (although difficult to know for sure based on opposition). While I wouldn't dare suggest it to the man himself, Big John's boxing record indicates he wasn't a big puncher. It probably wouldn't matter though, as Lenny would probably gas before he landed anything of note.

Lenny McLean was a big guy but he wasn't successful as a real fighter. He lost a lot of fights against bums. He was scary, a violent bully, and only really good at stomping people when they were on the floor.
John Fury was a mediocre pro fighter but he was good enough to beat McLean, in the ring or on the cobbles.

Lenny was obviously ferocious outside the ring but when you break down what he did in the ring its not all that impressive. I'd expect someone like a John Fury to be far too good for him.

    - Lost the first fight to Roy Shaw who was in his 40s. Roy also fought pro under another name years prior which I believe was as a Middleweight.…. so bare in mind John was a 6 foot 3 lump.

    - Lost to Kevin Paddock another pumped up middleweight.

    - Knocked out by Johnny Waldron who was a light heavy... KO'd by a jab as well apparently.

    - KO'd by Cliff Field who had an 11-4 record as a pro not to dissimilar to Gypsy John.

Among civilians these two are absolute monsters. Among professionals ...average. Both of them.

Let's not forget that Lenny at his most intimidating was juiced off his tits. Big John Fury would knock him as far back as his mother's rent book.....
