I do not believe Norton was technically more proficient than Marciano.

yes he did. George did devour come forward fighters this is why it is a dangerous match for Rocky. But it is also dangerous for George too.

but he did win fights with his counters.

styles are not like Rock paper Scissors. You cannot trump a style one hundred percent each time. There are multitudes of factors.

He doesn’t have to land punches going backwards though. It will be difficult for Rocky, but I think he can make enough impression going forward and crowding that he won’t need to punch going backward. If rocky is pushed he will just go lower. It won’t necessarily force him back. Admittedly George Will bull him about a bit and have his success too.. I just believe Rocky makes an impression whenever he lands and the examples we have of good fighters landing against George actually gives Marciano a real chance. Give him the openings Gullick and Lyle had...Ali and Young decking him...

yes, I probably know a lot more about Ron Lyle than you do. Ron did move like you say. He was even outpointing Ali until he got clipped. The thing is it was his punches that effected George more than his footwork in their fight.

Ron Lyle is not a better fighter than Marciano. He was not more effective. There are more ways to skin a cat. Marciano deserves to be an underdog. Yes. But he cannot be written off because he does things differently to Ron Lyle.

have you watched the right hands that the shorter Ted Gullick landed flush on George Foreman? We all know Ted was ultimately outgunned, but his moments of success can be golden openings for Marciano. I just don’t think you can write him off by deciding the trajectory of a right hand. If Gullick hit like Lyle he puts George down too. And he is shorter.

It’s all speculation on a fantasy match ups.
I offered a balanced opinion on what MIGHT happen which is all anyone can do because it IS fantasy.
You, bless you, think it’s all real and give your opinion as fact.
    Shame really.

Completely arguable opinion. It's not like Marciano was harder to hit than Joe was. How does he walk onto those shots and survive?

There is nothing "unreasonable" or unrealistic in believing Rocky could be stopped in 1 round because he was an "all time great".

There is actually precedence for all time greats being stopped in 1 round in boxing. It is not impossible or unheard of.

Rocky was knocked down in the 1st round by Walcott, a guy who doesn't hit nearly as hard as Foreman.

Foreman had several brutal 1st and 2nd round knockdowns/knockouts. Which includes 3 brutal knockdowns of a certified all time great in the 1st round (Frazier). Many refs would have stopped it after the 3rd knockdown if we're being honest.

Combine those ingredients with the fact both men were very aggressive come forward fighters and there is nothing absurd about it statistically.

I am not saying it's as simple as "Walcott dropped him early therefore foreman wins", im simply debunking the notion that rocky being stopped in 1 isn't "ridiculous" or impossible.

Frazier was harder to hit than Foreman made it look but I am not sure it can necessarily be proven Marciano took more punches than Joe Frazier. All the film we have of Marciano it appears that he out-lands each and e every fighter we see him in with. And by some distance. Whoever was hitting Rocky they got hit back more times by him for their trouble.

Walcott was fast counterpuncher same height as Marciano!
Foreman was not fast counterpuncher and could not caught Marciano fast as Walcott did because they were not same height and also Foreman dis not have Walcott headmovement and footwork!

Marciano had a mix of Swarmer and Slugger but people only give Marciano credit for his Swarmer style when in fact he put 100% of his power behind each punch, sounds a bit like a slugger. Thing about a Swarmer is there often in more of a crouch and is trying to wear his opponent down and then KO the other guy. I couldn't really put slugger into terms into my mind so i turned to good old Wikipedia- Brawler If the out-fighter represents everything classy about boxing, the brawler (also known as the 'slugger', 'hard hitter' or 'one puncher') often stands for everything that's wrong with the sport. Hmm the bold sounds like Marciano - but yet Sluggers oftne don't have the Stamina to go beyond at most 7 rounds without beginning to lose some edge- examples-George Foreman,Sonny Liston, and I believe Earnie Shavers as well. So Marciano is hybrid between Slugger and Swarmer because he shows Many Slugger Attributes, and yet has the stance (somewhat) and Stamina of a Swarmer. Any way getting back to what we were talking about, what they're doing is taking fighters from different periods in their careers and comparing them to Prime marciano, to be honest Prime to Prime I give Marciano a chance with anybody that ever fought, does that mean I think he could win against any fighter no. The reason I give Marciano the edge is because he had unmatched Heart, His stamina gave him the ability to go many many rounds throwing his best punches and taking punishment and still be fresh, and finally his punching power was great and in both hands. He had KO power in either hand.

Tyson got up against Holyfield and Lewis. It's OK. Don't blame you for not knowing this. It's hard to watch fights when your head's in Marciano's ass.

And by the same token there is nothing more “likely” about it happening to Rocky than any other fighters never previously knocked out too.

I think Ali was knocked down in the first round by Sonny Banks. Nobody went on to knock him out. Some guys go through a career without being counted out. Perfectly reasonable to use this evidence. Certainly stronger than suggesting ken norton was more technically proficient and Ron Lyle was better than Marciano as some have suggested.

This is true. It is also true that this was perhaps Foremans single most easiest fight. Literally everything went the way Foreman and his team expected. Because Joe of the Daniels and stander fight was completely predictable. Rocky was unpredictable. Frazier was no longer the man who beat Ali. No longer could he fight at range. George just pushed him back and hit him on the way in. The man who beat Ali was 4-1 favourite over Foreman. But Frazier was no longer that guy. He’d been hospitalised, and it was documented if he could even continue with his career beyond the Ali win. An exhibition was arranged to see if Frazier could hold a shot. The opponent they chose was an ancient Cleveland Williams. Then they selected soft touches like Daniels and Stander. George was joes first serious opponent. Go figure?

I suppose it’s no more ridiculous than Muhammad Ali being knocked out in one round. Or Joe Louis. And just as likely
