lol I wouldn't go that far. It's more Roid's hideous punch resistance I'm alluding to here. Any world class puncher regardless of size poses a serious threat to a mandible that fragile.
I remember all the Brits were going crazy for the hype job Naz was. Some were saying 3rds was all it was gonna take with Barrera lol I guess Brits are the greatest fans, but the worst for objective boxing predictions. RJJ's career, and talent easily tops Naz.
I've never understood this argument. He has only one loss. Against one of the all time greats. At a time when he was a clearly on the decline and not training.
It's a tough call. You could make a case for both. I may side with Naz purely form a physical/physics point of view, although the fact that he is the much smaller guy helps. But RJJ was the better all round boxer/fighter.
As a boxer Jones was more gifted, but as an overall athlete it's hard to say. Naz had crazy ability to move in weird angles and generate explosive movements from positions where no one should be able to, and was generally just a very bouncy and agile individual (all those somersaults, leaps, dancing etc -- I have a hard time seeing Roy do that). Naz could have probably excelled in more sports than Jones, so it depends on how you rate physical giftedness, overall or boxing specific?
He really never proved the contrary. The first great fighter he faced tore him apart. It wasn’t just the fact that he lost, most fighters lose at some point, it was the way he lost and the fact that he quit right afterwards. If he had won and quit, we’d probably be arguing about how he would have done against a list of AFGs but because he lost (and many people thought he was an overrated hype job at the time) it looks like he was exposed. Like I said, I loved watching him fight. He could crush lesser opposition and has a win over Kevin Kelley. He deserves credit but when you compare his resume to Jones and the way things ended for Naz, it’s hard to come to any other conclusion.
Are you crazy? RJJ was also a great basketball player who played in a semi-pro league in fact he played in a game and had a fight the same night. RJJ is 1000 light years a better athlete and physically gifted than Naz. It's no contest.
