Those opponents had not beaten the level of opposition that Fury had at the stage that they challenged for Wlad`s titles according to Fury in his autobio, I feel he had a point, was he right to say that? Had Fury fought better fighters than Povetkin by that stage of their respective careers? I didn`t know if this info was old enough to put in classic.

There's no way in a million years Fury had fought better opposition than Povetkin :lol:

Who had Alexander Povetkin fought by the age of 27?

I think they are talking more about at the point of facing Wlsd. On which case Povetkin had a much better resume.

I love fury but he does talk nonsense at times

Povetkin turned pro aged 25 after winning everything as an amateur, Fury turned pro aged 20.

Yet by age 28 Povetkin had already beaten Chris Byrd, Eddie Chambers and Larry Donald.

Povetkin had better resume. But it's hard to appreciate his resume unless you were really following heavyweight boxing during Klitschko era.

Prior to Fury beating Wlad there was no comparison at all. Povetkin was way ahead.

Chris Byrd was old when he beat him, who did Eddie Chambers beat and Larry Donald was also old and way past it.

As you say, Alexander Povetkin should be defeating decent fighters at that age because of his extensive experience, anyway. Most face knock over jobs for their first 15 fights, anyway, so is that really any better than an extensive amateur background?

Who cares, anyway? The point Tyson Fury is trying to convey is that Wladimir Klitschko hadn't faced anybody like him, because almost his entire title reign was against weak opposition, which is true. Alexander Povetkin has never captured a legitimate world title in his entire career and he is almost 41, so Tyson Fury is leagues above somebody of such standing. A completely different class.

Currently yes. But at the time Furys resume consisted of Maddalone, Abell, a shot Chisora and Hammer. Povetkin was at the time fight a cruiser champ in Huck, Chagaev, and unbeaten Warwryck and past it Rahman.

at the time Povetkin was the danger man. Granted fury became the man but in terms of competition at that point he faced next to none. In a weird way besides the Wilder and Klitschko fights Fury had a very padded record. Some were for good reason mind you like the fights with Seferi coming off a lay-off. But I would still like to see him get in with Whyte, Parker, Usyk post AJ.

I think AJ will end up with a worse record when it’s all said and done but he will go out having fought everyone.

People seem to forget that Tyson Fury was due to face David Haye twice, with David Haye pulling out 1 week before the fight. Tyson Fury was calling out the Klitschko's, but Alex Leapai's and Jean Marc Mormeck's were deemed more worthy.

Tyson Fury had beaten Dereck Chisora twice and he was the man to give him his first loss. I don't think he was shot.

I understand your points. At the first fight they were 14-0 and 15-0. Chisora was 20 pounds heavy and is known for not training for some fights. Second fight he was shot a lot of losses and career going no where. He’s had a resurgence in the his career of late and putting in some of his best performances. But the game is all about timing. But Fury don’t get me wrong would beat Chisora 99 times out of 100. And pretty much any other heavyweight.
Just would have been good to see him not go off the rails and fight the likes of Haye, Povetkin etc. Really cemented his legacy.

He wouldn't have fought David Haye, anyway. He said that after David Haye pulled out twice that he would never fight him again.

I think competing against the best in the division is the most important thing and I don't think it really matters about beating the Alexander Povetkins and Carlos Takams of the division. I was disappointed to see Tyson Fury fight Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin, it was a wasted year, but I think the latter will turn out to be a decent boxer.

Tyson Fury outboxed Wladimir Klitschko, who was a long reigning champion, in his stomping ground. Wladimir Klitschko had only been knocked out, never outboxed. He faced Deontay Wilder, in his own country, twice, once outboxing him and then walking through him. To me, that says more than beating 10 Alexander Povetkins. Defeating Deontay Wilder yet again only strengthens his resume and if he is to come through that, then defeating Anthony Joshua will confirm this boxer as the best of his era.

Povetkin didn't go on a tirade knocking out contenders left and right until after his Wlad loss.

Fury would've defeated Haye in 2013, would've been a good W for him.

I don't know that the crocked, heavy comeback Haye that surfaced in 2016 and ended up falling to Bellew X2 would have done much for Tyson's legacy.
