I am not sure if "robbed" is the right word. It was one of those fights where the case could certainly be make that Mercer won.
Lewis would have beaten Tyson 9 times out of 10 any time (easier after prison) but any time. Lewis would have beaten holyfield any time and if he'd been more aggressive knocked him out. Lewis beat Vitali and no amount of revisionist history will make that any different (not even an imaginary headbutt). Lewis on a focused day could beat anybody from any era. As for him getting KO'd who didn't. Tyson = yes Holyfield = yes And he would have beaten Bowe. People would have liked him more if he was gracious after a victory. Hasbeen Rahman, palease.
Lennox Lewis was the best since Ali He beat every man he ever faced in the pro ring. But he had one big fault? He tended to fight up to the calibre of his opponent. He never too Oliver McCall seriously & payed the price As for Rahman, if you remember they were filming Oceans Eleven with Clooney & Pitt when that fight was coming up Lennox was partying with Clooney & Pitt rather than training. Plus he was very late getting to S Africa for the fight Again he payed the price. He really should have been an undefeated champion as he proved in the rematches
Jack Dempsey Joe Louis Rocky Marciano Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali 2.0 Mike Tyson George Foreman 2.0 Evander Holyfield Chris Byrd Roy Jones Jr Wladimir Klitschko 2.0 Deontay Wilder Tyson Fury Technically all the above achievements are overrated (P4P), so if you pick on Lennox Lewis you are picking on the most Volatile boxing division, the lack of stability in Heavyweight is what makes this division very attractive. Lennox Lewis getting flattened by Basic punches is what makes the Heavyweight division exciting, especially for casuals (the main source of income for boxing). Any big guy who can box has an underdog chance vs Lennox Lewis with some luck. (or at least that is how it looks to casuals) The restricted divisions lack the same drama, because every inch & ounce is accounted for. Everybody is fit & highly skilled, so its harder for average Joe to watch the usual close fights or obvious mis-matches in those divisions. Lennox Lewis skill-level at Welter will ensure him a very deep losing record, the most skilled Heavyweight of all time, Mike Tyson is P4P a lower-tier contender at Welter, he will be too short to penetrate the range of the much skilled Welters.
Nah He had a right to gloat after that victory. Rahman was a real *****. Coming into his dressing room, calling him gay and all that ****.
Yes Lewis beat Vitaly but everybody including his mum knew he was losing a rematch so that win does not mean much
Mike Tyson was far from being shot though, he was just too small and everyone knew how to beat him, and he could not duck Lewis anymore with his money. Sorry but there is not a single version of Mike Tyson who could have beat the jab and clinches of Lewis that night. The guy is 6'5 with KO power in both hands and camps behind it the whole fight and sticks to his game plan. There is nothing to do. Tyson a 5'10 against a super heavyweight. Lewis beats him 10 times out of 10.
I always thought he had a great career. If you ignore the losses which he avenged he has a great record and he has to be in the top 10. His size helped him be dominant against guys who were not easy to beat.
My main gripe with him was the way he walked away from an offered and ordered rematch. His casuals don't care of course.
It staggers me the amount of people around, like yourself, that think anti-doping policy and governance is effective. I literally laughed at the fact you think Lennox Lewis was not using hot sauce.
A win's a win Are you high? Mike Tyson had nothing left. He lost three of his last four fights, two of them against Euro level journeymen and he just laid down against Lewis. He had no passion for the sport, he spent most of his training camp against Lewis sitting around on the beach in Hawaii and getting high. He had nothing. Lewis knows he didn't beat the best version of Mike Tyson, they even had all that in the post fight ring interviews.
