The man was a disgrace out side the ring and as disrespectful as any fighter I have ever seen. Lets just clear a few things up here.... 1) He never admitted to punching Ken Buchannon low effectivley ending their contest. Poor Ken still lives with the effects of that injury to this day yet Duran has stated that Buchannon was play acting in order to find a way out of the fight. 2) Never gave Leonard any credit after the 2nd fight where he was outboxed. Duran claimed he was humiliated and called Leonard's skill and movement cowardice and running he never gave Leonard the credit for being brave enough to fight his fight in the first bout. He then blamed his woeful performance on the fact that his manager had been offered a great deal of money to except the fight straight away leaving Duran little time to prepare. Now this fight was a re-match any fighter will remain disciplined enough to be in shape for the inevitable re-match. 3) Lied about No mas and is still lying to this day. Claims he had stomach cramps. 4) Admitted to not training for the Hearns slappage. Poor professionalism. 5) Never gave his opponants any credit after their fights a trait carried on by Julio Ceasar Chavez wholooked up to Duran.
Spinks was just a good fighter? He's regularly regarded as one of the greatest lightheavies ever. And he skipped cruiserweight and Holyfield to fight Holmes? I know Larry was past it but he's still generally regarded as one of the greatest heavies ever and is undoubtedly naturally bigger than Evander. And Duran was never good enough to beat Hagler, Leonard, Benitez and Hearns? We'll they are all clearly naturally bigger than he is and he did fight all of them except Leonard when he was past his best. But wait. He wasn't good enough to beat those 4? HE BEAT LEONARD IN MONTREAL lol
He beat Holmes within a year of Holyfield turning pro... And yes, moving up and beating an ATG HW champion coming off like 20 title defences is definitely a good win. You know Durán beat Leonard?
Yeah beat green 21 Leonard in Montreal! When he faced experienced Leonard he lost!Twice and quit! Also about size and excuses of Duran size! Quarry LHW and average CW fought best HWs! Holyfield CW fought giants! Frazier ex CW skinny and small fought also big mans! Did anyone of them pull excuses of size! What about SRR fought in MW but was WW?
First off Leonard wasn't 21 when he fought Duran in Montreal, he was 24. Please get it right. 2nd Leonard was so green, he was already champ and had stopped Wilfred Benitez, a consensus great fighter. Please get your facts straight and, while youre at it, stop making excuses.
Duran, a huge excusemaker, never used size as an excuse. But if you are going to deny that atgs Hagler, Hearns, Benitez and Leonard are naturally bigger than Duran, you are oblivious. Besides, which atg Giants did Quarry, Evander or Smoking Joe ever beat?
He beat green Leonard! 24 Leonard with what win?Green Benitez and Floyd Sr.! That's it! Off day Leonard with no experience gave Duran hell and lost tight Decision! Next fight Leonard fought smart and beat that bum!
Lmao. You’re making no sense. Leonard was prime but, but, but he had an off night? He was made to have an off night. Durán was superior when it mattered most. I couldn’t give a rat’s what happened after that fight in regards to the Fab 4. That win trumps everything. Rating Hearns above SRL is questionable but fine in my book. But rating either above Durán is not justifiable.
If you saw the Buchanan fight, which it appears you haven't, you would have known that even though prime Kenny had his moments, Duran basically dominated. And if you had seen it, you would have known that Kenny threw a combo clearly after the bell had rung(for the 2nd time in the fight), thus Duran responded with the nutshot. And you have falsely claimed Leonard was 21 and green when he fought Duran. Well, Duran WAS 21 when he fought Kenny and far greener than Leonard may have been against Duran in Montreal
