When was Bruno at his peak?

You're dead right. Frank never could fight inside. The constant infringements you mention were like a blag.

Bruno was dangerous hard hitting real one punch power and jolting jab. He couldn't cope with Tysons speed but his power made him a threat to anyone. .I think stopping Tillis was a impressive performance .Pity he didn't fight more regularly.

I suppose the comparisons between Bruno and Joshua are natural as they both have body building type physiques, suspect chins and dodgy gas tanks , neither are what you would call natural fighters although in my opinion AJ has a better skill set. The crowd always loved Frank and he was promoted very well. He did well against Lennox and was fortunate to get a forth attempt at the title against the erratic Oliver McCall . At the end of the day he was a world champion so that must have been his peak.

There’s a reason Aj is known as a “poor mans bruno” within boxing

Yeah except no one says that because it isn’t a saying.
“AJ is a poor mans Frank Bruno” step into any am gym in the country and you’ll likely hear that at some point. Your saying on the other hand I don’t think you’ll ever hear anyone saying it pal. I certainly haven’t

    I've definitely heard it
Well, you see, calling Joshua the poor man's Bruno when he's in fact better than Bruno would be incorrect. A poor man's substitute is a substitute that's not as good as the original but similar enough that you can get it if you can't afford the original or the original is unavailable. Joshua, being an Olympic gold medalist, Unified champion, demonstrating more dimensionality to his game than Bruno ever did, is not only a worthy substitute but superior to the original. Hence rich man's substitute.

    Probably against Tyson in 89.

Joshua is better btw, has some of the same shortcomings in chin and tank, sometimes looks similarly stiff, but also more destructive and quicker which put him where he is.

You're spot on in my opinion Mr Wiz.

For 6 rounds Bruno was giving Lennox all he could handle, at the end of 6 rounds the judges had it..

    57-57
    57-57
    59-55 Bruno

To be fair to Bruno the left hook that started the final onslaught would have dropped most heavyweights and Bruno never recovered from that left hook, Lewis just jumped all over him and it was correctly waved off.

Bruno was never off his feet though, gave a great account of himself and after that went on to win that title a couple of years later.

But that's probably the best I saw Bruno look for 6 rounds, he looked mature, his stamina didn't look that bad but to be fair he didn't fade in fights, he just literally stopped, so he might have blown out at any point but up until that shot he looked very good.

I was around for the Bruno years and although I’m not Joshua’s biggest fan he’s superior to Bruno.
He’s simply got a much better all round game. A bigger variety of punches, a more nimble mover which he showed in the second Ruiz fight.
I actually though think Bruno possessed the better chin, his problem was running out gas, more than the chin.

I remember people criticising his physique. Carrying all that muscle into fights may have looked impressive, but as he tired he tightened up and once that happened he became stiffer and slower and more vulnerable.

Think bruno was on his last legs by the time of the mcall fight. He was better when he was younger. Frank gets a bit of a raw deal at times...was more than competetive the first few times he lost for a world title, was neck and neck with lewis in their fight and seriously rocked tyson.

You dont do these things unless your a decent fighter in which bruno was.
