I see Mercer being able to absorb Ingos punches and win on points maybe even stopping him late. Thoughts?

I'd say that is a very feasible scenario.Morrison hit him with everything, yet he came back to stop him.Nobody is convincing me Ingo hits harder than Morrison.

Yeah, I think we've already found a consensus. I like Mercer here too. You could throw everything at Mercer and he wasn't going anywhere, if his head's on right then he hurts Ingo early and takes him out.

Ingo's sharp-shot of a right would fit nicely over the top of Mercer's jab, but I can't see it having much of an effect outside of getting momentarily respect.

I knew what the concensus was before I ever entered this thread.

One of the worst possible opponents for Ingo. Waiting all night to land one big shot on a granite chinned guy who doesn't take a step back and has respectable power and skill is suicide.

I agree with Those picking Mercer. He had both the power and the chin to get it done... Ingo’s only chance is to win on points but I’m not convinced he was all that great of a boxer

In Ingo's last fight in 1963, he won a split decision over Brian London.

It was not a split decision, and I would not call London iron chinned.

"The 12 round bout, billed as another step in Ingemar Johansson's march to a return shot at the heavyweight title, ended with Johansson staggering to his feet, his eyes glassy and his arms hanging at his side. Johansson, 200, apparently had the better of the dull fight until the final minute. He concentrated on his left jab to pile up points, and never landed his famous right hand. Brian London, 206, carried the fight but he could not land a solid punch until the final seconds when he stunned Johansson with a left and crashed him to the canvas with the right. The count had reached four and Johansson had just lurched to his feet when the bell rang. Referee Andrew Smythe of Ireland, the sole judge, awarded the fight to Johansson." -Associated Press

Not exactly a golden moments for Ol' Ingo was it? He had said prior that his "sister could beat London"...

It sounds like Ingo's prime was not very long, he had that big right hand.

I believe Smythe said afterwards that if the bell hadn’t gone he would have stopped it. I can only assume Ingo must have been in a bad way, as we’re talking about the referee who let Ingo virtually kill Eddie Machen.
