So here's the story. I'm 23, will be 24 by next golden gloves Wich is in March. Specifically the Chicago golden gloves tournament. I would like to enter as an independent fighter Wich I know is possible. I curently do not train out of an actual gym. But I have in the past. I've always trained off and on Different martial arts such as MMA, and boxing on and off since I was like 18 or so. I used to spar in my old boxing gym. I could go 3X3. I understand the golden gloves novice is 3X2. That doesent sound to demanding. I'm 6 feet and walk around like at 165. I plan to cut no weight. Does this sound like a bad idea? My plan is to get my cardio and body ready physically, do lots of bag work, and possibly find sparring partners.

Has anyone ever fought in the golden gloves, and has anyone ever fought independent? Advice is welcome.

    Conditioning, Conditioning, Conditioning

You could literally throw nothing but 1-2s and the variants of that for the entire fight and win a title. But you have to be fast. Power doesn't count for much in the amateurs.

I appreciate the advice. Yea conditioning is like the most important thing. I will work in nonstop, doing heavy bag training, running, biking, jump rope. Also do some calasthenics for strength.

I trained for novice golden gloves by focusing 3 times a week on sparring HARD for 4 x 2 min. rounds, and sprinting HARD 4 x 2 min. rounds on a track the 6 weeks leading up to the fight. Start your general training now and make sure you peak right at fight time. Good Luck!
