Yeah, I watched it again the other day (being in lockdown does that to you), and Parker won albeit unconvincingly (had it 116-112). Hughie tried to con his way to victory with his jab that either fell short or Parker slipped past all night whilst doing nothing but make Parker look bad by making him miss all night yet refusing to mount any attacks of his own. Yes Parker struggled to cut off the ring for most of the fight but won the fight on activity alone and when he did land clean which was very rare (still more than Hughie), he would hurt him. Clear win for Parker.
It was a dreadful fight and although Parker was busier, of the handful of decent shots that landed in the fight, I felt Hughie edged it. He made Parker miss all night which for me, scores as much if not more than what should be scored for activity.
Hughie definitely has ability and must be very frustrating to train. It is very easy to say but he just needs to let his hands go. He lost the Parker fight for me but could easily have won it if he actually threw some punches. He could also have been stopped by Parker of course if he was more aggressive and that might be the issue. Has he been hurt in sparring and made him too cautious?
To this day I cannot get my head around why Hennessy thought that Hughie fight was the one where he needed to put all his eggs in one basket. Desperate stuff.
You can’t score points or a win or even any credit by dodging punches and not throwing back or trying to counter ... the fight was awful and was mainly spoiled by the way Fury was going about his business.... Parker however does in general come to fight... Fury tried to fox it but that’s not winning ... I like Hughie but he needs to do something soon his last fight was a waste too what was the point? ....
But it basically ended his career as a promoter. You can't tell me he needed to book out the Manchester Arena for it. It did about two thousand tickets!
As said, I felt Hughie landed the better shots on the night. Parker literally landed nothing. Hughie landed a few. That was it.
Pleased for Mick. He gave Fury the platform when no other ****er wanted to touch him with a bargepole. The man deserves his due.
