It's better that we dont mention it really. Its only worth talking about the three proper belts.

 

Zuniga is IBO -- Bute is IBF at 168.

 

The IBO to me is the best belt beneath the three main ones - what gives it credibility is it's rankings system, which seems much more accurate than any other alphabet title and is on a par with Ring and Boxrec.

The IBO doesn't have mandos, and I'm not sure whether it would be able to operate that way.

At least it appears to want the best fighters to be champion in each division - the others all care about $$ - many of the best fighters of the past 20 years have held an IBO belt.

The IBO has their own rankings, the big selling point being that it's all computer graded, but generally end up 'tacked on' to someone with a more major belt.

 

There "champions" are equally as spurious. I remember when Jawaid Khaliq was the IBO champ when Shane was the big cheese at 47. I remember when Richard Williams was the IBO champ when DLH was the big cheese at 54. By equal measure though some notable names have held there belt which cant be said for the likes of the WBU WBF etc. To be honest there on par with the WBO.

 

I think they just like to try & get their belt attached to whoever they think the dominant fighter in a division is because they think it will give them recognition.

 

Pure coincidence. I don't believe they have any mandatories so if there belt is available and theres a big bout on the line they just simply throw theres into the square ring for good measure for recogntion.

 

That trend started with Lewis/Holyfield 2.
