A fight that theoretically could have happened in the early 70s but for one reason or another didn't quite come off. Who have you got in this one?
It was set and Ramos got injured a few days before the fight. Buchanan was better so would win. Ramos was a good fighter though but Buchanan on the next level up.
Ramos at his best (with no drug use) would put up a very good fight, with his very aggressive short punching style, but Buchanan would take the decision with his jab and footwork.
Ken Buchanan would have defeated Mando Ramos in that era of 1970/1971, by a close decision, both were slick fighters but Ken was not about to lose his title back then, but he would lose it to Roberto Duran, by TKO 13, on June 26 1972, in Madison Square Garden.
Due to the total eclipse of the sun that Duran was for 70s lightweights, people not of age then do not remember the articles in the boxing rags (which were essential to boxing then) that thought Buchanan in the early 70s was the best pure boxer around. Consider that when you know who all was champ in the other divisions in 71-73. And they said Duran had trouble with boxers? ****. He was unleashed that day.
Mando had too "standard" a style and was too available for Buchanan's crisp, on-point shots. I see a stoppage on cuts or lopsided decision. No disrespect intended to Ramos, I'm a fan, but Buchanan was just too tough and too sharp.
Ken was a cut above Ramos who, due to a heroin addiction, had the wheels falling off at a young age. It always seemed like he never developed fully into a professional. Even at his best, I would favor Ken at his median.
