Yes Holyfield was 40 and past it, but this is a fantastic boxing exhibition from Toney.

Despite the self-delusion and absurd losses he took later on, it's worth a watch just to remind how good he could be.

Toney is one of my favourite fighters and I love the noise he made at heavyweight for the short time that he did. But I swear, being allowed to weigh whatever he wanted was his downfall, not to say he didnt still have skill. But his already questionable discipline completely deteriorated afterward.

Didn't he come to the ring at 270? He's only 5'9"!
    Or was that Sam Peter?

I'm not too sure to be honest, I know he came in really heavy toward the end of his career. I've heard rumours that he ballooned up between bouts at cruiserweight to 270 - and this is when the weight limit was 190.

Imagine if he had a work ethic of FMJ.

you're right. a lazy toney who is focused gives any fighter in history problems. I think if Toney had the work ethic of FMJ we would be talking about him as one of the top 20 or 15 ATGs

You know......I woke up this morning and thought about this fight and I intended to post the thread about it today. But when I locked in this boxing forum I found your thread. How strange!

Toney said before the fight took place that it would be easy. It was great that Toney could do as he said by stoping Holyfield. Holyfield hit Toney with everything he had but the latter didn't even flinch then the former became exhausted and got KTFO.

Yeah it’s a shame he just ate as much as he wanted and probably did no exercising outside of sparring after the Holyfield fight.

Which I think is slightly to much for someone at his height. At 210-215, Toney would of been at his best.

I love this fight. Toney came in with all the energy and speed of a middleweight and he did what he said he was gonna do, stand toe to toe. Evander said he was getting embarrassed about how many times he missed. In the weigh in, people were saying look at the difference in the size of their hands holy>toney. War on October four! Toney was at his best hw state when he fought rydell booker. He was heavily muscled and was ripped with no gut, but just nio abs showing. It's too bad he ripped a muscle in his arm during that fight. He was the closest specimen to a prime Mike Tyson that I've ever seen. He is the best cw of his era based off the jirov win another guy who made noise at hw. I'm pretty sure he ended joe mesi s dream biout with Tyson. Teddy atlas' would second that. He used to appear in TV And tell the public that Joe had a brain aneurysm. Wtf would fight him or how could. He have fought legitimately. Or should it have been his own choice?

Toney did pack a punch at middleweight with just enough pop to bang with the heavies plus he never ever really got rocked too slippery, from flyweight to ya momma's weight he was a p4p er. I would have loved to see Ruiz fight him with his natural Ruiz style. But that was an easy win because John couldn't box. I was really looking forward to the Jameel mccliny fight. I think it would have been a show case fight for toney. The both had the same amount of pop, great matchmaking except jt snapped his Achilles's tendon and it made him cry like a little child. He really wanted that fight! James is my favorite hw.
