Was Oliver McCall just looking for a way out in the Lewis rematch?

No, I think that was a legitimate mental breakdown. That was, quite possibly, one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. It was pitiful.

 

He was upset because Clinton was found to have cheated on goblin Hillary.

 

I think he was a deeply disturbed person with his personal life in a tail-spin going through severe drug withdrawals. And he was fighting Lennox Lewis...

Sometimes the human brain just can't cope and I think a person just reverts to what the egg-head psychologists call the 'reptile brain'. That explains the bizarre behavior. I think the guy's hard-drive crashed and he legitimately lost control.

If he just wanted a way out, and that was all a premeditated escape plan, then why not fake an injury or just quit on the stool? Yeah, he would have been roasted during the short-term, but that usually blows over pretty quickly. Instead, his little meltdown earned him a spot in boxing infamy from now until the end of time right next to 'No Mas'.

 

Watch closely in the corner and you can see Steward rubbing an onion in McCall's eyes.

 

It was a well deserved victory for Lennox Lewis, but it would be hard to say, but maybe Oliver's performance may have had to with underlying mental issues, like depression. He would have to be evaluated to be certain.

 

Poor McCall had no business in a Boxing ring that night. Those responsible for his being there should still be in prison.
He was displaying all the signs of paranoia and depression that goes with withdrawal. It was said that he had a massive coke habit but I would guess it was more likely crack. Crack is addictive because it gives the user a massive high but when you are strung out you feel vulnerable, frightened and exposed.
The appalling scenes that night were not in any way premeditated. They were the result of McCall being pulled out of rehab before completion just so a bunch of Mr 10%s could get their payday.
Without doubt one of the darkest episodes in Boxing's history.

 

Same here. I’ve never seen a fighter break down in tears like that. There was definitely something wrong With him that evening. If he was looking for a way out there were certainly easier and less embarrassing ways of doing it

 

I think Oliver would have walked though Lewis again anyone with courage a good right hand and a pair of whiskers could beat the absolute fraud.

I am suprised anyone would think this would be a rational or likely thing to be faked.

McCall's bizarre behavior was a combination of severe untreated mental health issues, drugs, and the pressure of rematching a well prepared elite opponent in front of millions of people. Realizing the hard way that Lewis meant business, was there to win and that he'd likely get his ass kicked was the final straw. The pot had been boiling for quite some time and now everything was overflowing. If it was fake, he needs to win an Oscar because that was an incredibly disturbing and emotional scene. Some people just aren't built for pressure and they crack when too much is put on them. That's the irony of the so called "best chin in boxing".

 

The thing is, McCall was always a nutjob and he looked prone to frustration in other fights too.
Yeah, it was strange seeing him crying like that but he had virtually that same crying face in other fights, either before, during or after. Very strange.

Yes of course it was but it was done subconsciously, his body and mind just rejected the challenge and he folded.

 

He was not well but part of it was realizing he couldnt beat Lewis. He threw some big shots at him for a few rounds. Then reality set in.
