I happen to be a big fan of Gerry Cooney’s.. And I concur and feel your frustration that his whole career is often unfairly judged by what he did after he became a more or less semi retired fighter. But with that said... WHY are you so adamant in thinking that he’d destroy a boxer in two rounds who hasn’t been stopped in some 35 fights and took the best that Anthony Joshua had to offer ? Like it or not, Andy Ruiz beat the heavyweight champion of the world.. Cooney doesn’t have a win like that nor such a display of durability...
Ruiz is too durable he will be broken down Clamity Cooney will be rocked and socked all the way to the fifth before a right hand curb stomps him into the floor where he can collect his thoughts and decide he failed his race or some crap and turn into a medicore hooker. wake up he was paper, a flash in the pan.
Cooney before Holmes was much better than Joshua at any point of his career. But your right Cooney may not blast him out. But he wins just the same. Especially if Ruiz comes in out of shape.
Cooney takes a lot of heat on this Forum - perhaps, some of it justifiable. However, he wasn't all that bad a boxer and, to be fair, he showed some grit against Holmes, after having been put in with him too early (in my opinion). Like many others here, I've watched Joshua from the beginning. But, I have not seen much in the way of improvement in him - some, but not leaps and bounds, by any stretch of the imagination. I'd bet on Cooney to beat Joshua - the guy just doesn't defend against left-hooks - and I really can't see how the defective Weeble and flash-in-the-pan Ruiz is going to make an impression on Cooney, either.
