He also lost to Ivan Robinson twice. A guy in his mid 30s who never won a world title & finished with 12 losses.. Hatton & Gatti are on different levels.
By the time Hatton fought Tzyu he had developed the perfect style to beat Gatti. Throw a hard, short combination, 2 or 3 punches then grab and maul, either work his way out of the clinch or wait for the Ref to call break and do it again. Gatti loved to stand in range, using his chin as bait, and exchange until some one dropped or looked to break off. Ricky would simply exhaust Gatti stopping him around 8 or 9.
I honestly think Hatton wrecks him at his best mate,to big and strong, he hunt him down and you just know that left hook is gonna be the shot that finishes him. I could see it not even warming up before Hatton lands something that tells you it ain’t lasting long. He gets bullied
For a short spell Hatton was a monster, great chin. Bad lifestyle and severe weight cutting ruined his chin an career imo, he would get wobbled quite regular towards the end, maybe the majority of his fights not long after Tsyzu his resistance dipped quite noticeably
You can say the same about Gatti. He was a notorious nightlife guy. But he could box and punch. Believe me, I know Hatton would be a big favorite. However I just can't count Gatti out of a fight when the fighter is hittable and not a defensive master.
When Hatton fought Pac and Mayweather I would agree, not when he won the title off Tyszu an a little after, no one smokes him, he walked through bombs off Kostya, who could still whack and still regarded as the man at 140, he had his hunger and his lifestyle wasn't bad. For a while he was a true force at 140, couldn't make weight without becoming weak so moved up and lost his main advantage to the bigger guys, strength. Pac and May always beat him, but Hatton had hard fights that he shouldn't have, or not as hard if he was professional out the ring
They are both hittable come forward guys, admittedly both can box but in general they are both going to land, the one is physically a good bit stronger and carries the deadlier dig. Both come in in great shape, Hatton mauls him an knocks him out in 10 after having some good exchanges imo mate, he was a very strong 140 fighter
OR... After taking a beating to the body and head with one closed eye and bleeding from the other one, Gatti catches a charging Hatton with a flush left hook to the point of the chin. Hatton goes down face first, raises at the count of 9 then stumbles into the ropes. The ref immediately waves it off. Gatti winner! It could happen!
I think the poll shows what most think would happen, BUT, like you say anything could happen, Gatti was good on his feet when he chose to use them.
