I'm so sick of this barb. Constantly used to either slag off Jacobs or to gas up Golovkin's win but it just doesn't hold up. He may have come in heavier than GGG on the night (170lbs vs. 178lbs, if I'm not mistaken), and yes 178lbs is above the LHW limit but that doesn't make him a CW. You gonna start calling GGG a LHW for weighing 170 on the night? Of course you're not. Name me a single CW that has ever weighed ~180 on fight night. Just one, I'll wait. Then you can call Jacobs a CW. Making weight is part of the game, and he made 160. That makes him a MW. Period. Back on topic, I reckon GGG UDs Froch.
Golovkin was a better fighter than Taylor. Golokin hit harder than Taylor. Golovkin was a better finisher than Taylor.
Froch has a very fragile ego. Even listening to him now, you can palpably sense how insecure he is; always bigging himself up, always belittling other fighters like Amir Khan, calling Ward a spoiler, never gives credit to other fighters and so on. I think he was bullied by his juice head brother Lee when he was younger so he developed this persona to try and deal with his insecurities.
That's extremely basic. Take GGG's jab away and what do you have? Taylor was able to counter with speed and power from outside with his athleticism. And is he a better fighter than Taylor was, really? Matthew Mackin is only, what, five leagues beneath Bernard Hopkins.
Take away GGG's jab and you have what? He is still a power puncher with or without the jab. Take away Froch's stamina and chin and what do you have? A very crude boxer.
To the great consternation of many people I usually see eye to eye with as far as boxing goes.... I said it on here 6 years ago, 5 years ago, 4 years ago and still today. Yes, Froch would beat Golovkin, and so would Ward.
In GGG fanboy land he is 100-0 in fantasy match ups, back in reality his best uncontroversial win is Lemieux or Kell Brook. Froch takes the hype apart.
Wrong. Ward might have made him look crude, but Froch has underrated skills and could box very well off the back foot. You don’t beat Andre Direll (albeit in a close fight) if you can’t box. You don’t put on a masterclass against Arthur Abraham either. GGG hasn’t shown the kind of heart Froch has, he shelled up against a much smaller man in Canelo second time around, he’d look like a rabbit in the headlights against a bigger, tougher man in Froch.
He wanted absolutely nothing to do with a Prime Golovkin....Like most fighters at the time....watch this.!!! This content is protected
I agree that Ward would, but with regards to Froch: Froch himself wasn't sure of winning, he admitted point blank that it was a risk he wasn't keen on taking. I can see a good argument to lean to Froch, but I would struggle to do so with any great confidence, given that Froch himself clearly wasn't completely confident.
There might have been prior context that made Froch say that. He often says things tounge in cheek and has a very dry sense of humour so he mighnlt have meant whay he said. But if you believe what he said , why don't you believe him when he said he was too big and to strong? Billy Joe Saunders also said Golvokin would beat both him and Eubanks on the same night. He clearly didn't think that a few years later. Billy called out Golovkin in Kazakhstan in front of his population. Golovkin never took him up on the offer.
