Eh. He staggered Tyson a bit. Tyson admitted Bruno was the first time he ever took drugs before a fight
Which World Heavyweight Champions were dethroned in the ring by Tony Dosh PPV? Two of the greatest ever Charles Martin and Baby Butterbean
'Seriously rocked' makes it sound worse than it was. Bruno wobbled him a bit. Given what a mess Tyson was at that time and given that he was high, it's a testament to the gap in their skill levels that Bruno didn't pull off the upset that Douglas managed the next year.
Bruno actually wobbled him more than once in that fight. So what are we actually arguing over. Over weather he seriously rocked him or just wobbled him? I m not sure thats even worth discussing tbh. Regardless tho he did rock or wobble tyson...more than once in that fight. My original point was frank gets a raw deal....you dont put up his losing efforts that he did against bonecrusher and lewis and rock or wobble tyson unless your decent. Are you disagreeing with that or just if he wobbled or rocked a less than great tyson.
His peak was the first fight against Tyson. His weaknesses cost him in that fight. A poor chin, poor gas tank and no inside fighting game. He never really ever improved on his weaknesses throughout his career. When he beat McCall which remains his only world title, it was mainly because of McCall's poor performance and inability to go for it when Bruno was completely gassed after 7-8 rounds. AJ is a far superior and more well rounded boxer than Frank ever was.
Yes when he was hurt he was unable to hide it, and he froze like a rabbit in headlights. It meant once you hurt him, he was never going to recover and was easy to stop. In fact, it was something extremely unique about him that stands out over time.
I suppose I am, yes. Douglas was a 'decent' fighter, look at what he did to Tyson. If Bruno were better he could've done the same. Tyson was falling apart in '89. Broke up with Robin. Broke his hand on Mitch Green. Got into a car wreck. Fired Rooney. Fired and got into a bitter legal dispute with Cayton. Took drugs before the fight. Like Bruno said himself, his mind was not on the game. Yet, aside from being wobbled for a bit in the opening round, he smashed Bruno. All the planets were aligned for Bruno to pull off an upset and he didn't.
Tyson had regressed further by the time of the douglas fight. There was tyson then a big gap then the rest. His life was starting to fall apart but the gap between them was so big he was still able to get away with it at that point. Took another year before he was ripe for the taking. He was lethargic from the first bell against douglas. You can visibly see a big difference between douglas tyson and bruno tyson. He was on the slide against bruno but he was sliding from a pretty high place tbf. Never seen it been said he was high for the first bruno fight. Pretty sure he said danny williams, lou savarese etc. But dont think he entered the ring high against bruno the first time round unless i m just not seeing it? Regardless tho bruno showed enough in his career to be regarded better than decent. Some great fighters back then that could do it all and frank competed with them all. Was competetive with lewis....was beating bonecrusher and rocked tyson more than once in there fight. Lewis and tyson are locked on as greats. And bonecrusher was still beating guys in 1999. Your not a bad fighter if you had the career of bruno.
Bruno was never World class but cmon decent is the least he could be called Done very well for someone not born with natural ability
He said it in his biography. He said that he was in such bad shape for the Bruno fight that Bruno should have ****ed him up Mate, Hunter gassed badly against an ancient Povetkin, more ancient than the one Joshua beat, couldn't get him out and nearly got knocked out himself. Hunter's not smashing Joshua. Not in a million years.
