Louis may actually get him out faster! Leon would probably run straight in to joe and start flaling away. That s not healthy.
Oh when the saints go marching in....oh when the saints go marching in...oh how I want to be in that number when the saints go marching in!!!
As much as I like Leon I don't like him against any version of Louis. Sure he could swarm and out work Louis but it would be likely that he would eat Joe's right hand at somepoint and that right hand was always dangerous. Jersey Joe was a much different fighter than Spinks and way more defensively sound. Spinks offense was his defense. When he was in his prime he was able to handle some good punchers power (Mercado comes to mind) but Louis true power came from his timing. The logical money is on Joe to catch him at somepoint.
Uh, no -barring the kind of fluke that's always possible at world level. But almost certainly Louis ****s his **** up bad.
Spinks does not have the right style or attributes to upset Louis Even the version of the Walcott fights, is probably enough to see off this challenge. I also don't think that Louis would have selected him as an opponent at this stage of his career. He was defending his title less frequently, so that meant that he generally gave the shot to the #1 contender.
Leon Spinks was very good that night he beat Ali. He deserves a lot of credit for that performance, regardless of Ali's condition. But styles-wise, Joe Louis is a different proposition entirely. Louis wins by KO, probably inside 5 rounds.
We have had a few threads comparing the Louis of the Waloctt fight, to the Ali of the Spinks fights, and it is a bit of a false equivalence in my eyes. This version of Louis was probably more equivalent to the Ali of the third Norton fight.
